Ok I was playing as the prince of Crete and was enjoying my reign.
I had a lovely wife and 3 kids(2 sons and 1 daughter) and my court members were nothing short of the perfect team you could ever have.
One day however the emperor died and for some reason I became the emperor.
Anyway first thing I noticed was that it complained that I didn't have a heir.
Very strange since I had 2 legitimated sons that could do the job.
Anyway I figured that my next child would be able to do it however for some strange reason my wife became very very passive. Almost like she wasn't there(she was there but nothing happened with her).
Well I tried to do the only thing a man can do in that situation, kill his wife(what ? there is no divorce in this game).
But again fate goes against me since I'm not allowed to kill my wife anymore :( .
So there I was, Emperor of Byzantium with no chance of having my dynasty survive.

So it seems that getting a promotion screws up your bloodline since it makes your sons become unable to heir and your wife becomes inactive.
Anyone else encountered this ??

Byzantium has elective law so the person who inherits you will be the person in your kingdom who is the most powerful ie has more titles. Give one of your children more titles than the person first in the succession list and they'll succeed you.
