Having the Locust 1M, Trebuchet and Catapult (C1 and C4) all have the 'Missilery' quirk for example would be fine I think. It gives you that LRM specialist in each class.

The Archer is a Heavy, not an Assault. :)

Also, there's the option to make alternate versions which have slightly altered functionality, by changing the manufacturer tag.

Whilst I see the attraction of unique quirks per chassis (or even per variant) I don't think it would be bad at all to have some duplication across weight classes. Having the Locust 1M, Trebuchet and Catapult (C1 and C4) all have the 'Missilery' quirk for example would be fine I think. It gives you that LRM specialist in each class.

There's definitely room for more quirks but I don't think HBS need to feel that they have to be unique.
In principle I agree with you, a more generic system, say a Missile Accuracy Targeting Computer could be used to quirk Catapults and Locusst. But some equipment, like the Missilery System should remain unique to a single Mech. After all the purpose of the Missilery System is to make the Archer the best of the Missile Boats. Hard to do that if the Missilery System is then shared across different Mechs.

Then change it so the Catapult instead gets an Anderson"Jump Jet Controller" which reduces the heat buildup from jumping by 10%, Can fit the fluff, too.

Wouldn't the Missile Accuracy Targetting Computer potentially have the same effect as a TTS Missile?

Stacking can be your friend. : )
And as we’ve seen with some other HEAVY METAL Quirks, they would come absent a weight cost.

OK, but imagine a situation where the pilot already has Gunnery/Tactics skills maxed out, plus the TTS and that new gizmo. With stacking limits this could mean that the TTS becomes irrelevant. So adding the new gizmo reduces the usefulness of an existing one.

Maxed out MechWarriors? The game has already progressed to the Endgame. Likely the Locusts and Catapults will have been set aside by then. Better to load TTS on the Archer and see if outperforms a fully kitted out 4 LRM System Highlander.

Or likely not, some players prefer to stick to Lights/Mediums for a number of reasons, so it's a real possibility even if you're not a fan of the idea. I personally prefer to play them rather than heavier 'Mechs, but it's just my personal preference.

I was thinking +15% to ammo bin capacity. For the Dragon, use Sprint distance for Melee attacks and a 5% reduction in Stability damage taken.

Excellent Idea. It would distinctly and materially impact the Mech’s Combat Performance Capabilities without infringing on the bailiwicks of current equipment and weapons bonuses. : )

I'd have to say this isn't as good - part of the 'Mech identity is whether or not it's "short on ammunition" for extended use, and the Catapult is a 'Mech which sort of has a reputation for needing resupply consistently. Giving extra ammunition per ton also raises some balance issues... notably "those should have weight".

They were played during the Tournament Stage demonstration, so I've seen them in use. (The Marauder didn't look terribly different than the "Super Pre-Alpha" gameplay seen way before.)

My counter to this would be that I consider JJs kind of a waste of tonnage on LRM boats. I could see saying that 15% is excessive and it should be dropped to say, 10% though. Maybe a blanket heat reduction on the C1 would work, but 10% on just JJs seems really weak on a Mech that's already far from the best at its niche before the Archer shows up. I'm also intrigued by reports that we're getting the PHK-1K variant. The Phoenix Hawk has a trait/quirk that's directly tied to JJs, I find it hard to believe they'd implement these traits/quirks and then saddle one of the new Mechs with a trait that is completely useless to it stock. This to me suggests that we might possibly get per-variant quirks. So perhaps heat reduction on the C1 and ammo capacity on the C4?

Wouldn't the Missile Accuracy Targetting Computer potentially have the same effect as a TTS Missile?
They do different things. One grants you more focused clusters and the other more chance to hit. Also more focused clusters is not so useful against vehicles because they have fewer locations. You cannot kill them easier with more focused LRMs than with a lot of them.

Better to load TTS on the Archer and see if outperforms a fully kitted out 4 LRM System Highlander.
Unless the boost is really huge I don't think they'll do, assuming no more than 2xLRM20 in the Archer. And it's easier to fit TTS in an assault without compromising too much survivability or cooling.

Enhancing a BattleMech Variant’s Core Identity...

Yeah, I love the sound of that. : )

...Unless the boost is really huge I don't think they'll do, assuming no more than 2xLRM20 in the Archer. And it's easier to fit TTS in an assault without compromising too much survivability or cooling.
When I play BATTLETECH, I routinely make use of a single LRM Mech in my Go To Lance.

Late game, I have found great success with a 4 LRM System Highlander. With the Archer’s Quirk, the Archer just may outperform my LRM Highlander. I can’t wait to find out, : )

'm also intrigued by reports that we're getting the PHK-1K variant. The Phoenix Hawk has a trait/quirk that's directly tied to JJs, I find it hard to believe they'd implement these traits/quirks and then saddle one of the new Mechs with a trait that is completely useless to it stock.

The PHX-1 Phoenix Hawk (or PHX-1K) is designed to be a 45 ton 'Mech, and is pretty much useful as a raider or flanker due to its speed. Its armaments aren't special - until you remember it can be jumping quite a bit to reposition. It doesn't necessarily have "superb" temperature control, but to be honest it's not like those MGs aren't coming off immediately to slap in some Heat Sinks :)

Due to it being a Medium 'Mech, and on the lower side of it, it might be considered fairly fragile. It's not any less well-protected than the Vindicator is, but is faster and armed with a main weapon arguably better for the weight class. (Large Laser vs PPC).

I think what @Q_res is alluding to is that the -1K variant doesn't have any jump jets:

PXH-1K
The 1K variant was particularly favored by House Kurita, though when it was introduced in 2603 it represented a departure from the traditional thinking of the Phoenix Hawk. By removing all jump jets from the 'Mech, room is freed up to install three additional heat sinks and another one and a half tons of armor. The machine guns and ammunition have also been removed from the design and replaced with a single Small Laser carried in the center torso.
