Hence why I said "Early Cold War" :rolleyes:

yeah, a historical cold war would either be too much work or not fun. I think a HOI game designed from scratch to handle the timespan could do it (or a cold war only game), but not HOI4. That doesnt mean a time extension wouldnt be fun tho, you just have to expect the nukes to fly at some point.

Issue: 1945 Jet is Outclassed by Fighter 3's
Fix: All around stat buff to 1945 Jet and 1950 Jet. Easy fix.
Add a Jet Designer Company for each major nation, or make Rocket Theorist give buffs to Jets.

Comment: Jet 1 is good but gets outclassed by fighter 3s. Jet 2 outclasses any other fighter in the game.
I'd argue that the regular fighter company should simply also provide benefits to jet fighters - most early-generation jets were made by the same companies that made the preceding piston-engined fighters (eg. North American Aviation made both the Mustang and the Saber, Messerschmidt made both the Bf/Me-109 and the Me-262, MiG made the MiG-3, MiG-9, and MiG-15, and so on). Similar concepts apply for tactical and strategic bombers.

I agree, but some little flavor that doesn't take long to introduce would be nice, for example, if Germany loses, some events about Allies-Soviet relationships getting worse. And the Soviets invading Manchuria and the partition of Korea don't exist in the game either. And if Germany capitulates the Soviet Union, having Germany annex only lands as far as the A-A line or the Urals and create some independent rump states in Siberia out of USSR collapse, even if they are tags with generic focus trees.

I guess that could come with the Soviet DLC anyway.

Reliability should be much lower. I would buff air superiority and nerf reliability to make them higher risk, higher reward.

  • Critique of 1000 km/hr max speed (it appears to be too high to represent a 1945 tech):

As a general rule, the jet engine consumes more fuel than its piston-engine counterparts; the fuel-hungry Welland engines imposed considerable limitations on the Meteor F.1, leading to the type being used for local interception duties only. In the post-war environment, there was considerable pressure to increase the range of interceptors to counter the threat of bombers armed with nuclear weapons.[96] The long-term answer to this question was in-flight refuelling; several Meteors were provided to Flight Refuelling Limited for trials of the newly developed probe-and-drogue refuelling techniques. This capability was not rolled out to service Meteors, which had already been supplanted by more modern interceptor aircraft at this point.

A total of 890 Meteors were lost in RAF service (145 of these crashes occurring in 1953 alone), resulting in the deaths of 450 pilots. Contributory factors in the number of crashes were the poor brakes, failure of the landing gear, the high fuel consumption and consequent short flight endurance (less than one hour) causing pilots to run out of fuel, and difficult handling with one engine out due to the widely set engines.​

Super heavy tank costs 100 and you need 15 of them for batalion. Total cost 1500
Heavy tank costs 30 and you need 40 of them for batalion. Total cost 1200.

If you make super heavy tank costs 70, total cost will be 1050, so Super heavy tanks will be both cheaper and stronger than heavy tanks. I don't think your suggestion is good
I actually agree that advanced/vanity weapons like German vengeance rockets or WWI-era jet fighters should only be as good as they were in reality. By the time you get them, the war is nearly always already decided anyway, and they didn't have much of an impact in either case. Build them for role-playing purposes or because you think they're cool, or because you've found some niche for them that you can utilize. Maybe building a few of them could give you a slight war support boost for their propaganda value.

I've always viewed this game as it being in a perpetual indentity crisis. It wants to be a historical simulator, a historical plausible simulator and a sandbox game. But doesn't do well in any of those imho. It wants to cater to historical grognards as well as casual gamers but these groups require a very different game design philosophy. It's like adding oil to water and expect it to perfectly blend together.

Over the years of following the improvement process of this game I've become very cynical when it comes to the future of the HoI franchise, so I do want to stress that I'm being anything but objective in my critisism.
