I guess if the German army spent so long attacking the Maginot head-on, with no particular preparation for defeating forts, it's not too surprising that they took a lot of losses.

I don't think it's a great sign for the game that Jakub didn't seem to be aware of what his army was doing. Even when he sent most of the forces north, those battles were still ongoing. Not knowing why your armies are impaling themselves on the enemy spears is the sort of thing that can turn newcomers away from the game, and Jakub knows the game a lot better anyone who is just picking it up to try it out.

Good to see the time honoured tradition of bludgeoning your way into france by frontally assaulting the Maginot line is still an effective strategy, even when the allies have air superiority.

Also I think the Franco-British union stuff is busted. I might have to rewatch the video later to get a better idea (I was half asleep at the time), but I think when the event fired the UK did not inherit French manpower, but French divisions were getting absolutely shithammered by the German/Spanish/Italian alliance and were draining the meagre British manpower. Can anyone confirm my suspicions here? If that's what happened then that needs fixing.

I hope they can get air warfare to be more accessible. Honestly, as a HOI3 fan, the air warfare was the one thing that I couldn't get into and was too much micro for me. Sometimes I ended up going into the console and deleting everyones air units so I wouldn't have to bother.

However, the battleplan AI seems to be doing good, and the Axis AI performed competently. Naval warfare seems to be improved, so overall - good work so far. It seems the German player got slightly screwed over when it came to armor because of the guy that switched his production lines up in part 2 unfortunately, but hopefully he can overcome it.

No. I was being serious. They flew by a lot which was hard to follow. I would have preferred if they moved slower and actually explained what they were doing more like the first two vids instead of just playing and having us watch not understanding half of what they were doing.

Is anyone else thoroughly unimpressed with the AI? And they haven't even reached beta yet. I'm starting to think a Q1 2017 release is more realistic right now.

One improvement I would like to see is that when the game is paused. the troops, airplanes, and ships would pause in their tracks as well... Most the time when they were doing stuff I thought time was still ticking (because everything was moving) but alas, 2-4 minutes later they would click the un-pause button and I throw my fist in the air in an angrily fashion.

France is supposed to be overrun.

What exactly are you unimpressed with? Frankly they did so much so fast, showed us very little, and explained even less, how can you form any opinions one way or the other.
What they showed in 1 hour I'd probably take 4 hours to do because I'd be pausing and doing things constantly.

Aye, I'd second this. The only thing from the AI that stood out as perhaps 'could be better' was the Italian fleet taking an active role in the Mediterranean when the French fleet was still around - unless Johan completely forgets about the theatre, there's only one way that's going to end - but generally speaking I thought the AI did fairly well, but we saw far too little to draw a firm opinion.

French manpower was depleted. He inherited 0 and the only land he inherited was rich in other things not manpower.

I stand by my prediction. This game is fully ready for release but they are waiting for the vulkan/driver support for more advanced AI potential. Vulkan/metal/dx10 are going to be the first huge step in AI potential in video games in 2 decades. This company heavily utilizes GPU computation for their games. Its why Hoi3 was 8800GTX minimum even though it was such a low quality graphic game.

So, these questions didn't get answered last time, I was hoping that they might pique a bit of interest this time:

Something I wanted to learn more about @Johan and @podcat or @BjornB...

1. Can we set the older models that are still being produced when a new model is developed to slowly switch over (that is to say, if I have 15 factories producing stuff, and each is producing a # of them, once each factory has finished it's assigned value to cease production) and automatically transfer their production to the new equipment?

2. Is there a function for naval and air units to 'exercise' like the army can? For instance, we see Johan sending his fleet around Germany, basically from the get-go. Or can there be an 'exercise' (I would assume a limited number or rotational sort of thing, like Red Flag/Top Gun for the air forces and RIMPAC or a FLEETEX) where it is of short duration and only can be done a few times (for instance, if the weather is cooperative)... I would assume that this can't be kept up indefinitely, and after a certain period of time the RoI is minimal. I recall something that might be that they consume supplies while doing so, maybe? While I don't want to jump to any conclusions, I daresay that even the most trained army in the world (Israelis) can only do a month-long "block" training rotation. For deployment, we were at Camp Shelby for maybe two months and did about three solid weeks worth of training. Marines though, "train" for six months (ish) for a deployment. But peacetime manpower rotation also would chip away at that efficiency.

3. @Johan never actually answered the question about his fleet during this weeks' broadcast. I feel like they should really have someone standing over them narrating what's going on, vice having the players (who clearly are in favor of playing more because of the speed of the game) try to talk and concentrate.

French manpower was depleted. He inherited 0 and the only land he inherited was rich in other things not manpower.

Was it depleted? It seems an alarmingly short war to have sent French manpower to literally zero, considering the new manpower model is such that you get huge waves based on recruitment laws and then only gradual increase over time. If that was France on a 3 year draft, hitting zero after a few months of combat would mean they've been designed to fail even harder than HoI3. I'd definitely like some clarification from a staff member.

3. @Johan never actually answered the question about his fleet during this weeks' broadcast. I feel like they should really have someone standing over them narrating what's going on, vice having the players (who clearly are in favor of playing more because of the speed of the game) try to talk and concentrate.

If I won the 1.6Billion Powerball last week I was going to buy Paradox purely to change the WWW format to the following:

Jakob and Jake as gamecasters

Bjorn doing sideline reporting with the two players asking fielded questions from the forums

Game would be 2 vs 2 with Johan and Groogy as dedicated opposing players with guest players jumping in weekly to play a minor out some.

If a potential house rule is broken they can do a play review with guest judges from other dev teams.

I know I'm crazy. It'd be probably more work than anyone wants to do but it'd be so fun to watch and maybe even make.

France starts with a manpower nerf in Hoi3 don't see why not in hoi4 also.

How so? AI Denmark did just fine.
France is supposed to be overrun.

What exactly are you unimpressed with? Frankly they did so much so fast, showed us very little, and explained even less, how can you form any opinions one way or the other.
What they showed in 1 hour I'd probably take 4 hours to do because I'd be pausing and doing things constantly.

Netherlands and Belgium not keeping troops on the borders, Japanese fleet not doing anything, German troops attacking maginot line when specifically told not to.

First of all the troops were not actually told not to. Take a look and what he did, don't just listen to what he said he did.

Also when at peace, countries don't line their troops up at the border. Doing so constantly like in HOI3 is actually bad AI. ie. In 1935 Mussolini moved troops to the border with Austria to intimidate Germany. They were not permanently sitting there waiting year after year.
