So I've been looking at Strategic Command III, still on the fence for buying it. Has anyone on these forums played it? The fact that it's turn based is really neat and I do like how you command Corps, not Divisions. Though I do feel like Hearts of Iron has the leg up when it comes to things like ministers and research. I just thought this would be a good place to discuss more war oriented turn based games vs the Hearts of Iron Model. I feel like the ideal game would have a mix of both.

SC:WIE II (III is in beta, yes?) is a fun game with great strategic elements but its play is very different from HOI4. SCWIE II is a much better gameplay than Ruse; it looks and plays like Panzer Corp and Order of Battle: WW2. HOI4, imo, has more potential than these but the goofy AI can negate some of the fun; whereas, SCWIE II, PC, and OOB ww2 have excellent AI but far less holistic infrastructure. In this regard, SCWIE II moves closer to HOI because there is research and upgrades, as well some regional improvements. Perhaps, something will always be sacrificed in the effort to include more components into a game, e.g., in COH2 the tactics of combat are supreme (with strategy only generally at work). In HOI3 and 4, strategy is huge, with the tactics operating at a much lower level. All good games but with focuses on some very different goals.
