The fact that the word "Medium" is written right above Light 1 and Light 2 doesn't help the average viewer in reaching that conclusion.
But I'm glad the tanks have their correct designation.

EDIT : 7716 hours in paint :

1416602163-ngocaoa.jpg

This is the same tech tree, except clearer.

I believe the reason it is the way it is now is 2 fold:

1) I think that changing a template from having a Light Tank to medium tank will cost XP. I actually agree that this should happen, as it prevents other abuses if you can simply swap out any battalion for any battalion. You will most likely have 2+ tank battalions in your tank divisions, and I would assume 4, giving this a cost of 4X.
2) If it is expensive to change templates, and given the cost of changing factories, this leads to a point where it becomes very very smart to simply produce minimal amounts of Light tanks, as the change to medium will be very high. This cost will be mostly done by Germany only.

This basically leads to a similar version of min-maxing in HOI3, and it really takes away the importance of Panzer I and Panzer II tanks in the game.

Nice editing. i was otw to do something similar myself.

But your picture depends on 1 thing. What kind of battalions the Pz1 and Pz2 are placed in. If they are placed in a Light Tank Battalion i agree with your picture. If however they are placed in a Medium Battalion i do not.

Though i would like 1 thing to be changed. mirror the tree. Starting from Left -> Right with Light, Medium, Heavy, Super Heavy.

Well, Darkrenown told me a page ago that thre tree went "Light 1, Light 2, Medium 1", so I guess Panzer 1 and 2 will go in Light tank batalions, even though they appear on the "Medium" column in the tech tree.
And I'm thinking exactly the same way as you do about the fact that light tanks should be on the left, and heavy tanks on the right.

I would do something like this: Yes i would put more space between the different types and a "S. Heavy" marking at above the Maus. However for my "modding" the picture this was easier to illustrate a point.

attachment.php

EDIT: the only "problem" i see is having "Medium" in the middle of the picture instead of at the top and the fact that the "Light" line will be hard to move far to the left because of the Armor headline.

Except being a good geocentric habit, it doesn't change a thing (and should be easy to mod). My only wish is that the position remains consistent between each majors and the generic minor tree.

Also shouldn't it go from Panzer II to Panzer III rather than Panzer I to Panzer III?

Yeah, Poh and Le_Carabinier, the armour tree needs to be laid out better along the lines you have shown - it's somewhere on the todo list :s

I checked in here after seeing the video, which was absolutely great!

If you guys ever do more of these, I would watch the heck out of them and they're easier to spread around.. Like, if you guys could go to an air plane museum to talk about strategic bombing or production or anything involving them really. I think it could be a big hit and I'd make sure to spread that youtube video around en masse.

The ships or weapons of the era would be much harder to come by as they aren't kept in groups like tanks or planes. And the weapons you'd have to shoot through glass.

Anyway.. Concerning the tank tree, I was very receptive to your guys' tank tree, but these redraws with light on the left felt like a weight coming off of my brain, and I heard myself saying "oh that's so much better".. But I'm an American. Soooo.

Anyway, keep up the good work! I hope to be playing and enjoying your games for years to come paradox!
