Meet the Tanks and Vehicles of World War II in a New Developer Diary Video

STOCKHOLM — November 20, 2014 — Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studio today released a new developer diary video for Hearts of Iron IV, the upcoming World War II strategy game for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs. The video features a visit to the “Arsenalen” museum of military vehicles in Sweden, where Hearts of Iron IV’s Project Lead, Dan Lind, invites eager commanders to join him on a tour of how different tanks were used to turn the tide of war – and how different nations pursued tactics of quality vs. quantity.

This tour is connected to new game discussion and in-game footage as details about industry, war experience and vehicle production are revealed.

The new video is available to watch now:

For those who wish to see more in-game footage of Hearts of Iron IV, tune into our live broadcast today at 15.00 CET (9am EST) on the official Paradox Interactive Twitch TV channel: www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive.

Hearts of Iron IV challenges players to face the brutal conflict of World War II in a multifaceted grand strategy game, where history can be fully relived or rewritten from the perspective of a global superpower attempting to change the world – or a small nation simply trying to survive. Players will have to involve themselves in every facet of wargaming, from diplomacy with authentic historical figures to production and resources, along with battles on land, sea, and air. The most authentic real-time World War II simulation is scheduled to release next year for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs.

The “Rush to the Front” reward campaign for Hearts of Iron IV is still going strong, and ambitious generals who would like to obtain rewards for signing up, including the chance to participate in the Hearts of Iron IV beta ahead of the game’s launch, can still do so by visiting www.heartsofiron4.com.

Panzer porn

I must say the zimmerit paste has a great contrast with Podcat's eyes.

But no Hetzer. :(

And also the false idea that Germany had no women in the manufactures...

Please more video dev diaries, this one was well done.

EDIT: I also hope this rotating camera make it into the game.

1. Do planes uncover the fog of war?
2. Will we get a sprite for every model or just the "best" tanks for each side? One sprite?
3. Will the lights in the cities go out when enemy bombers are nearby?

Nice. I was hoping for Darkrenown to make a cameo and start a Panther vs T 34 argument ;)

He has plenty of argument on the historicalness of the Shermans alleged reputation of burning a lot ;) Also sadly they had no panther there.

Very nice video!

I think this will get people interested in HOI IV. For those who want to nit pick the historical detail, this is not the definitive WWII tank documentary. This is a game company showing how their game relates to history & the choices leaders faced in history and you will have to make in game.

I like it when military vehicle experts talk about military vehicles.

And also the false idea that Germany had no women in the manufactures...

This is true, as well as the fact that the wartime employment rate for women in Germany was higher than in Great Britain. Germany more than any other major combatant had an extremely labor intensive agricultural sector. So it was not rational for the German women to leave their farms and start working in factories, because this would have destroyed German agricultural output.

Maybe it's editing, but Christer Holm is a little weak on larger economic points, f.e. @ 6:39. The relatively small (compared to the United States) German "civilian" car production was earmarked for military use immediately after the war. Like the United States, Germany produced just enough passenger vehicles to maintain transport for bureaucrats, the rest went to the military and virtually none were delivered to consumers. If passenger vehicles took up a larger percentile of production, it doesn't mean that the German automotive industry wasn't "mobilized" by 1942. Just that Germany in the early 1940s was a less motorized country than the United States.

Other than that, I liked the video!

I don't agree to all given "historical" thoughts. :D

But the vid is done very well. And the game looks nice.

Well done everyone.

Bzw., next stay in Cologne at gamescom, you could extend your stay and check out some place in France/Belgium/Germany for more cool tanks.
Afaik in France they also drive KingTigers from time to time. At least I saw a vid with one of that "Kitty" once..

Hmmm... the shot of southeast Asia showed Yunnan and Sinkiang as independent countries from China. Still no official word on how China will be handled in HOI4, though.

At a certain point, they mentioned that the U.S. produced something like 10,000 tanks in the war. Is it a goal to balance the game in such a way that production numbers will be more or less historical?

I don't understand why Panzerjager I has a picture of PzI? Will it be fixed?

There is no way we can afford drawing all the variant icons, so they are shown as the base hull plus an icons specifying their role (in this case a bullet penetrating a steel plate)
