Redeeming the Third Reich (or not) in Hearts of Iron 4/IGN
”Even having only played for a couple hours, Hearts of Iron 4 is already one of those games I think about in my spare moments. Modern warfare on this scale has never been so finely modeled while still being relatively accessible and logistically forgiving.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/23/redeeming-the-third-reich-or-not-in-hearts-of-iron-4

Hearts of Iron 4 is shaping up to make "The Good War" a great one/PCGamesN
”...it was a tremendous first act, and, considering I was managing one of the largest economies and complex war machines in the 20th century, a surprisingly elegant and intuitive experience. Hearts of Iron 4 did a great job of making sure I knew what I could do and why I might want to do it, so that I was always free to focus on figuring out exactly what I should do. And that’s exactly what a game like this is all about.

Hands On: Hearts Of Iron IV - The best laid plans/Rock Paper Shotgun
"In less than an hour, I prevented World War II by screwing up the invasion of Poland so efficiently that the French army had marched into Berlin by 1938. I’d been following scripted historical goals – y’know, remilitarising the Rhineland, the Anschluss, the kind of to-do list that caused me to wince everytime I glanced at it – but had jumped the gun somewhat, declaring war before my troops were fully prepared. In the final moments, the French invasion on the Western Front was pushing my troops back faster than I could push into the East."
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/02/24/hands-on-hearts-of-iron-iv/

Hearts of Iron IV hands-on preview: I would make a horrible Hitler/PCWorld
”The bottom line is: It's Hearts of Iron. It's a hardcore World War II sim for people who presumably love Band of Brothers and early-2000s History Channel, who maybe own an M1 Garand and have read Stalingrad multiple times. It's not light and endearing in the same way as Crusader Kings II, nor is it the slow dance of monarchs that is Europa Universalis IV. It's war, war, and more war. A Great War, if you will.”
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2887...nds-on-preview-i-would-make-a-horrible-hitler

Nick Horth has a heart of iron, but a brain of damp cotton wool/Gamewatcher
”If Hearts of Iron 4 can effectively juggle all those different systems (and if the new battle plan system can avoid automating too much of the combat), then it could be the game that sets the franchise on equal footing with Paradox’s heavy hitters.”
http://www.gamewatcher.com/previews/hearts-of-iron-iv-preview/12158

Rewriting The Second World War With Hearts Of Iron IV Fools rush in./The Sixth Axis
”There’s an incredible degree of depth to the game that will be almost baffling to a newcomer – hence my abject failure to conquer Poland – and yet, for me there’s a distinct appeal to the grand scope and scale of waging these wars.”
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2015/02/23/rewriting-the-second-world-war-with-hearts-of-iron-iv/

What it's like playing as Hitler in Hearts of Iron 4/Eurogamer
”Hearts of Iron 4 is all about guiding a nation of your choice through the period of the Second World War. Events are likely, but not certain, to take a course similar to that of history. I decide one of the better things I can do is form a non-aggression pact with Sweden. As a surprisingly pretty sunset rolls across western Europe, my soldiers stare longingly into France, dreaming of what could be.”

Translated from Scandi :) :

"And it gets better: even at this early stage there is no doubt that Hearts of Iron 4 will be able to flirt with both complete noobs and stubborn old veterans. Neither is there any doubt I belong to the first category: I never succeeded in starting a war on Poland, and my revenge will have to wait for the game's release."

The most disturbing thing I red in the interview was this:
http://www.pcgamesn.com/hearts-of-iron-iv/hearts-of-iron-4-is-the-good-war-made-great
My losses were shockingly high, and both my infantry and air force units were badly depleted from the Battle of Warsaw. Nor was it easy to sense how or where those losses occurred. Hearts of Iron doesn’t deliver a clear picture of who is winning and at what cost. This bit of feedback might be one of the trickiest things that Hearts of Iron 4 needs to get right: all their other games give you battle reports, because that works for medieval and early modern warfare. But it doesn’t work for the constant friction of World War 2’s massive battle fronts.

My post from another preview thread:
What I didnt like, was that author of that article didnt get info/feedback about his losses and where they happened.

I would like to get at least weekly and monthly report with summary of losses and option to list regions(states) and countries, where my armies suffered those losses.

I also hope for ledger with graph capable of showing my weapon type and manpower losses during certain period + their production - that way I would know, (for example) that my tank production is sufficient, but that I need to make more infantry kits and artilery pieces.

To add to that :

"However, as you deliver on promises and improve your government’s position, more capital flows your way. There is a bit of a snowball-effect when you’re playing well. Likewise, when you are falling short of goals or suffering massive casualties, your capital begins to erode." (Source)

Sounds like that one is up for wild interpretation. Is "massive casualties" getting 20 divisions surrounded and annihilated, or is it taking significant losses during a hard fought offensive (where you apparently wont be getting any feedback on how things go except for paying visual attention to the strength / org of your units).

Most interesting thing is that you can max 4 research projects at the same time, that mean getting nukes and such cost you alot instead of being a unnoticable side cost.
It also mean minor will have more competive tech if they focus on few areas.

Maybe the battle screen should not be based on province battles but on front battles? So you could click on an individual province to see the divisions fighting in that provinces (and who is winning and losing), but if you click on your general, you get a screen showing the front as whole, showing all the divisions under his command and all the enemy divisions they're currently fighting.

Yeah, its interesting limitation. I just hope that limit to number of ongoing projects is well ballanced against research times and number of technologies.

You know that is a new idea that has some real legs, and in line with the HoI4 direction.

We know that Germany could tech rush Tiger Tank (1941) in 1936 in 3 years and one reviewer say that it take about a year developing a tank assuming no tech rush here.
You are supposed to make use of variants and quantity to keep up in certain areas while focusing you research in the areas you think are most critical.
Tech rushing is encouraged thanks to how long time it take to get factories to produce the equipment effectively.

Black ICE had a system just like that: win or lose a big battle and there are consequences, good or bad. It makes major defeats hurt more, for sure, and makes you feel all the more pleased with yourself when you manage to pull off a major victory :) .

What do you even mean? HOI4 looks like it'll have a battle window just like HOI3. What exactly are you missing?

"I am a terrible Adolf Hitler. Perhaps I should find that reassuring and in some ways I do, but for the last fifteen minutes of the hour that I spent with Hearts of Iron IV, I was on the verge of screaming horrible insults at Warsaw. It refused to fall, you see, and as the session came to an end, I was determined that I’d claim Poland as my final act. It wasn’t to be."

My losses were shockingly high, and both my infantry and air force units were badly depleted from the Battle of Warsaw. Nor was it easy to sense how or where those losses occurred. Hearts of Iron doesn’t deliver a clear picture of who is winning and at what cost.
Game isn't finished yet but still we must keep eye on it. This is important aspect of the game. I sensed this a few moths ago when I started a thread about it. You may want to check this out:

Most interesting thing is that you can max 4 research projects at the same time, that mean getting nukes and such cost you alot instead of being a unnoticable side cost.
It also mean minor will have more competive tech if they focus on few areas.
Where is this information ? I read all the review, haven't seen it...
