In all honesty, never been a big fan of politics. As wargamer, I usually focus on....drum roll please.....war. But I must say the images and information in this DD has me very interested in getting my hands on this part of the game. Alot of decisions can affect my plan for total war domination :)

One question in regards to ministers:

1)If a minister is assigned, for example Rommel, will that keep him out of the pool of general available for front line duty?

Just got the email from Paradox, "Today we come to you with a rather important message: Hearts of Iron IV will release in late Q2." sooooooo my bet is on a June 7th release. Disappointed but if it makes the game better, I am all for it.

It sounds really good.

Ps. Porsche doing slow tanks? Are we talking about the same Porsche we alll know? :p

The Königstiger was the slowest Porsche ever built! :D

Great diary, thanks! :)
Still gotta just say that I am sad about the Q2 Release, though I know that its the better decision to release it as awesome as we all want it to be.

There we go, only three levels of infantry weapons

View attachment 122243

Why do you assume that its only the big boxes is the levels?

From what i can see theres 1918 - 1936 - 1940 - 1942 - 1944 (standard infantry weapons) I assume that the large boxes ('18, '40 '42) is larger upgrades with bigger bonusses or model changes.

Then theres 18 - 36 - 40 - 42 (support weapons, mortars and heavy machineguns) and 43 - 46 (night weapons/snipers support i presume)

and 42 - 43 infantry anti-tank weapons

I don't think we need three communist and three fascist parties - one is enough. What was the point of the other two communist parties in the USSR?

But we should have at least two democratic parties. Elections should matter for countries like Britain and the USA. An election could lead to a change of the head of state or even some further political consequences, e.g. a "free" change of laws in one direction. (Even if you don't want this change)

Maybe there will be variable numbers of parties depending on the circumstances of the country. So America gets Dems and Reps plus Fascists and Communists of some kind, and if Nazi Germany becomes Democratic Germany, it gets a second centrist party added.

Seeing Trudoviks and Kadets listed in the previous HoI games for the USSR was a little strange.

(Not sure if we're supposed to discuss the stream here as well.)

From top to bottom, left to right:

Infrastructure
Military IC
Civilian IC
Airfield
Naval IC (dockyard)
Anti Air
Artificial oil maker
Radar
Reactor

No rocket test site and port seams to exist anymore.
However port may have been replaced with naval IC

Infantry Tech tree top to bottom, left to right:

Anti light weapons (mortar/machine gun)
Night vision equipment (Vampir/Snooperscope)
Main infantry weapon's (good vs all)
Anti heavy weapons (needs weapons II)
Reacon
Engineer
Motorized/mechanized (icon look motorized and the text above say motorized but the vehicle is a halftrack).

I think U-Boats and Landing Crafts are part of the Naval Company, so you can have only one.
The image showed Messerschmidt chosen as the Light Aircraft Company, i think you can choose another for Medium (two-engine) and Heavy (Four-engine) aircraft.

Having just one naval company is going to be a serious flaw if that's the case. If we are trying to limit Naval companies, then there should be something at least like:
submarine
Light warships (DD and CL)
Large Warships

I might even break that further into submarine, escorts, light and large.

But my other questions still weren't answered, how do you gain companies? Do you inherit companies when you conquer countries? There should still be ways for minors to get companies in some way.

Minors get generic companies.

Podcat, need help with the minor country companies? Generics are meh.
Community could provide.

Finland could have:

Planes:
Valtion Lentokonetehdas (airplanes, abbreviation VL) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valtion_lentokonetehdas
Veljekset Karhumäki (barely relevant, but if there needs to be two to choose from) http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veljekset_Karhumäki

Dockyards:
Crichton-Vulcan (Turku) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crichton-Vulcan
Wärtsilä (Helsinki) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hietalahti_shipyard

Industry:
Tampella
Hackman

Tanks(?):
Sisu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisu_Auto Made an armored car proto in 1938 etc.
Helko http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helsingin_Autokoritehdas Made car/bus/truck (rolling chassis) until the factory burned down in 1937.

INT tech steps based on history:
VL Viima (36) -> VL Pyry (39) -> VL Myrsky (42) -> VL Humu (43) -> VL Pyörremyrsky (44) -- basically Myrsky is the only proper one, Humu improved Brewster, Pyörremyrsky vaporvare and Pyry & Viima trainers.

(and this interesting frankenplane http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/85703-mörkö-morane-the-finnish-frankenplane/)

This looks great! I am very excited about this game again so it is regrettable that it is only coming out in Q2. As others have said though, I would rather wait and have it work well than get a buggy early release.

It looks like you guys are continuing in the right path for this game.

What is the down side of Total Economic Moblization vs War Economy? If there is no downside to implementing total economic moblization is there at least a limitation on how it can be implemented? In HOI3 Total Economic Mobilization was always better than a war economy to the point that house rules were made when it could be implemented for different countries.

Why are people complaining about the reduction of political parties? Surely three parties will make it easier to bring other countries into the conflict by diplomatic relations (if that still applies).
And three parties will work for... let's see ... no nation?
I'm not sure we need the same number of parties, but for Germany, you'd want the Nazis, the army-autocrats/monarchists, a conservative party, a liberal party, a socialdemocratic party, a leftwing radical party and a communist party. How else would you depict any government change? The potential and attempted coups from the army would not have been democratic and ABSOLUTELY not communist, so you need a party to account for that. You need a decent range of parties if it turns democratic, and you need a party to represent the few Spartacists that had survived, and of course a communist party to greet the Red Army when they come rolling.
USA would have two major parties, and a smattering of smaller ones. They'd need at least the two regular, and a party or two on each wing.
Denmark would need six parties at least: The Nazis, the Conservative, the Liberal, the Social-Liberal, the Social-Democratic and the Communist parties.
Even USSR could need more than three: Two or three communist parties: One Stalinist, one Trotskyist, one leftwing radical that could perhaps be ignored, one social-democrat, one ...
You get the gist.

No, I wouldn't buy it if they had cut the number of parties down to 3 for each nation. There are several nations that would no longer be able to make sense or you'd have anti-historical parties like "This party represents all right-wing authoritarian parties", "This party represents everyone from conservative to social-democratic" and "This party represents all left-wing revolutionary parties", something that is frankly laughably stupid - which wouldn't make sense either, but at least you would admit it.
What would make this plan even worse, however, is that they already have the parties from earlier HoI games, even if, for e.g. absolute monarchies or dictatorships that had forbidden opposition parties, the names themselves were anachronistic or names of groups, not parties.

So removing the parties would make every nation very, very silly, and it would be a weird move for Paradox who already has the setup from earlier.
What I expect this is, is they haven't yet scripted the all parties so that's why we don't see them.
And really, who'd think the Nazi party had ~75% of the popular support in '36?

1. The DD mentions that two of the companies boost research equally. Does that mean some companies can research slower for an overall superior product? Or faster for a inferior product (i.e., to tech rush to jet fighter but its got extra issues because it got rolled out too quick).
Certain companies increase research speed, certain companies increases stats. Those stats are essentially "locked" after the tech is finished. So a tank researched when you had +10% armor for a company will always have that +10% armor, even if you switch companies. At least, that's what the stream said.
