Unlikely - the game is far too "map heavy" to control with a joystick. Stellaris for consoles makes some sense with the star systems being far more granular. Unless I'm mistaken many consoles support mouse and keyboard input nowadays, but the population of people using them is probably limited.

This. Unless they actually make it so mouse and keyboard are required I can't see it working. And even then it brings up two issues:
1. Limiting the player base by forcing the control method
2. Asks the question of what the point was, therefore, in creating a console based game if you have to play it like a PC game...

As a general rule, grand strategy really doesn't lend itself well to the console platform. Way too many options most likely leading to micro madness.

Is there even a remotely small chance that anyone is ever going to bother thinking of the possibility of just pretending to port a full strategy game to a console and not just a demo with 1% of the mechanics and features?
Try on mobile first. It's more likely. With a subscription and cloud computing, mobile can give you the controls and computing power that consoles lack.

Well, obviously you’re not suggesting joystick capabilities, keyboard and mouse can be plugged into consoles these days as far as I know.

This would broaden the reach of Paradox and actually can be a smart move because there aren’t many strategy games on consoles.

I actually don't know much about the Stellais console. Is it the exact same game? Does it work well? Can you MP with PC users?

AFAIK it's the same game but with HEAVY changes to UI to make it work on console joypad.

I assume no cross platform MP since it's an older version of Stellaris without all patches/DLCs.


MAD props to any console port company that manage to make it work well ( can't say myself since I didn't try it, but I think it's the same team that did Cities skylines and that worked surprisingly well when I tested it ). HoI4 would probably be even harder though.

I find it unlikely HOI IV would have a console iteration, from an amateur's perspective there's a myriad of technical problems with that. Stellaris itself seems far more accessible for controllers and what not, with the UI reworks.

And I should say, just beacuse it gets disagreed with over here, it doesn't really form a general consensus on whether it's a good or a bad thing. It's likely Paradox wouldn't try it if there wasn't some incentive to do it. And although there's a lot of jokes thrown around, you look on YT elsewhere, people seem pretty excited to at least get to try a grand strat game on a console.

The neat thing for Paradox about porting to console from PC is that it's probably much easier to do than making a new game from scratch, and that Paradox themself probably don't have to do a whole lot other than approving the quality is decent since it's outsourced to ( after checking up on it ) "Tantalus Media" so it probably doesn't have to sell exceptionally well to make money for all parties involved.

Nope, that would destroy the Game and it´s advantage over Consoles (Modding, DLC´s with Overworkings and much more). Look at XCom and XCom2 from Firaxis. That Game is only a runner on the PC with that advantages, all others like Consoleplayers have much lesser Gamefeatures / Gamefun.

So it won´t be ever going to consoles, only they upgrade to real PC´s. :)

Stellaris is going to go over to consoles and as far as I know, it's not getting destroyed by a lack of mods. You could say that about any video game that has mods on PC.
