@podcat I like the generic tree, nice job! However, the extra research slots are deep down in the focus tree. Like 6 steps from the beginning. Isn't that a bit unbalanced and in favour of the majors? If i'm remembering correctly, they get an extra slot at 'step 4-5'...

It's further down the tree then some of the majors from what I can remember but at least it is there. A minor will still struggle to match one of the majors but they won't be as badly off in terms of research as they were in HoI3.

Me love generic tree, structured so perfectly.
Kinda makes me want to play a minor nation first actually.

Poland is a nation between a rock and a hard place. They have no chance of preserving their independence, regardless of what help it receives. How can you even suggest Poland?
Poland have a chance. Small, but still, besides you can change history in this game. There is also quite big thread about Polish focus tree and please check that before you post this. Moreover, Polish foreces were signifant part of allies armies and can do a lot. Even if defeated, there is probably some government in exile mechanics to continue to play it

Like say I play as Norway. There would be no opportunity for me to defend myself against Germany since I would have no alliances except Denmark, who would most likely fold right away, and then I would be next. Your only chance to survive is to merge.

He's getting confused with the thread proposing an NF tree mod for Poland. It is not official.

A Major power is a power which can last longer than one year without the help of another power. (Except France and Italy because they messed up hard). Poland can't realistically defeat two Major powers from both sides. That is simply impossible. You fold and you will always fold. There is no scenario in which you survive.

If so, then I think China should be a major. How can you even imagine that Poland is stronger than China?

Or, youknow, let Vidkun or the commies get to power. Then you'd have a bit better allies than Sweden and the rest. One would most likely do a historic revenge invasion on Sweden as well as both extremes for different reasons.

I don't suggest that Poland is stronger than China, however as you probably noticed in WWW, China has so obsolete equipment that in game Poland could actually win, but that is not the point.
Personally, I think that China should be a major as 8th nation, Poland possibly as 9th.

A Major powers needs infrastructure, Military power aswell as a strong navy that can defend it's waters. Infrastructure and Land units is a must. The nation must be able to survive for a certain amount of time against another major power without folding. The nation should not have to change its' ideology to gain allies in order to protect itself or to prevent from being invaded, since doing so would actively require that said country to conceed it'd foreign policy to some other nation of a different ideology in order to protect itself. Since a unified scandinavia would be democratic and not have to do so, it's fair to say it can pretty much dictate the rules for itself without always having to suck up to other nations while still preserving some sort of realism. Also, just because you are of the same ideology doesn't mean necessarily mean you won't be invaded. Stalin was going to take over Poland one way or another, regardless if they cooperated with him or not. Just look at Napoleon when he invaded Spain. China would be the most fit country to be considered the 8th power, since it can atleast hold it's ground for some years and tie down the Japanese pretty well, but since a unified scandinavia would be able to tie up both the germans and the soviets even if they both attacked them (Germany's navy and soviet's army), it's fair to say a unified scandinavia would have more military power aswell as infrastructure than China. It would be able to cooperate with the rest of the allies to preserve their interests without having to sell themselves out.

Imagine if you knew history at all...

Poland had option to join either Germany or Soviet Union, especially Hitler was a big fan of this idea. Then Poland can shape the war sides by picking allies if it refuses to take route of nazism or communism. Also Poland was on the way of rebuilding economy after years of nonexistence, which was one of the reasons why Germany speed up their invasion.

Is Germany going to invade its ally? With a Nazi government there is a chance Norway could stay more independent from Germany than what happened historically.
No, they would be communists, he just said commies. Or are Vidkun nazis? Again, that is not being independent but you are actively relying on Hitler. Also, I didn't know you hated Sweden so much.
