Yes. Everyone else except the 7 majors gets the Generic Tree.

Again I ask, where have they said that only the majors will get a unique focus tree?

Two extra research slots are not going to be nice to realism.

Agreed, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as the AI doesn't take them regularly. If it's a player choice thing, they can choose to play plausible or not, and it's all good, and I'd expect Greece suddenly fielding a domestically built up-to-date air force and armoured divisions built by the AI would show up in beta testing. Even if it does, it should be pretty easy to mod out. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer it grounded in realism, but it should be easy enough to work around and the devs have already made it pretty clear that they want minors that are players and not AI to have a leg up.

1. Carriers are considered capital ships (though they started out classed as cruisers - hence the abbreviation CV, the v for voler). So they should be covered under the Capital Ship focus.

2. How many research slots are reasonable depends on how research works, both directed internal research and diffusion, borrowing, or theft from elsewhere - tech needed is often for sale or at least on display abroad. In those cases the research starts with learning enough to know what you are looking for and at the other end developing the specific know-how as well as the general skills to make use of it. The same principles apply in non-technical research, such as military doctrine or industrial organization and training. So Research slots could represent education as well as lab experimentation.

Two extra research slots are not going to be nice to realism.

That second research slot looks like it now takes a lot of focuses to unlock (it used to just be straight down one tree and now looks like you need 2 Army, 3 Air, and 2 Naval focuses as well) and we can't even see what any of the prerequisites for any of the focuses are. The last time we did see any prerequisites was a while ago but as someone posted earlier Infrastructure Effort II had a number of factories (50) requirement that borders on turning your country into a major industrial power. So I would expect a minor nation to be a long way behind a major once they unlock five research slots. Though I guess a large part of how long it will take will depend on how much free building you can get from focuses.

And you are told again:
I accidentally counted the generic focustree as a major ;D there are 7 majors trees + generic

I hope you can take that as an answer. No Swedish tree, no Finnish tree, no Polish tree, no tree that you hope for, no matter how much you hope for it or yell for it. 7 + 1 it is.

I'm not sure about whether or not all the above or only one needs to be unlocked (you may very well be correct in presuming so) but it has at least been stated that the second research slot has a requirement of a number of factories owned. The number mentioned (subject to change) is 50 factories which is probably unattainable to most minors without conquests. I believe we have very little to fear in terms of minors ending up with up-to-date homegrown air force, armoured forces and carriers :)

How it is possible for most minors to get 50 factories, if that number doesn't change, will be highly dependent on all those Industry focuses. I'd guess that seven of them could give free factories slots and free factories.

I agree, but a minor nation won't need that many slots to have top-notch models for the equipment it can build. You'd only need three slots to have up-to-date industry, land doctrine and infantry equipment/tank/artillery research, which is far, far more than most minors ever had. Give someone four slots and they're as good as a starting major power (IIRC). As before, no biggy as long as it's something that players mainly take advantage of (ie, while it's a bit ahistorical for most minors outside of Australia, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Poland and probably one or two others I've forgotten, it's great for someone wanting to go on a minor nation SP rampage, or for MP balancing).

Interesting focus tree. Should make minor powers a little more fun to play then they were in HOI III. Just a few questions though:
1. Will it be possible to create your own faction if you chose the "Liberty" branch over the "Collectivism" branch?
2. Will focus trees be moddable?
1. yes, as I recall you can make a faction one focus faster than down the collectivism branch
2.yes

How it is possible for most minors to get 50 factories, if that number doesn't change, will be highly dependent on all those Industry focuses. I'd guess that seven of them could give free factories slots and free factories.

the best way to get 50 factories is to take some elses or be a fairly big in the first place ;) but yes for a small minor this may be out of reach.

Minors did beat majors in important fields. Like while Germany did not even build dual purpose guns sweden was building auto loading dual purpose guns, basically the difference between 1936 and 1944 tech.

Alot of research will go for the 3 doctrines and minors was not behind here either.

A question: Some national focuses reduce the ahead of penalty time by 100%, do that mean all ahead penalty is gone or it just subtract a 100% from it so 200% penalty becomes a 100% penalty?

The first one could lead to countries getting very ahead in time of fields which may be a good thing for the game but Im not sure.

It could also mean that the 300 % penalty won´t go down to 200 %, but to a 150 %. Which is what I assume this means, but I am not sure.

Now to the important announcement: Hearts of Iron will be delayed until Q1 next year. This is because after getting lots of valuable design input from DDRJake we have realized that Hearts of Iron IV as it is now is missing a crucial physical connection with its players, and it would be unfair of us to release it until this is done.
Worry not however, we have a great solution for this proposed by Jake himself - Dance Dance Revolution Mat integration! No longer are you simply a passive observer, you can instead march in real time (soundtrack will be replaced with 100% marching band music) with your soldiers towards Moscow! Not enough for you? We have also developed a revolutionary Bucket DLC System(tm) that lets you slosh through authentic pripyat swamp water*, mud and scorching hot sand (requires oven (not included)).

BPskZVZ.jpg

We believe this will revolutionize grand strategy gaming like nothing else and are super excited to take you with us on this journey!

x5yfdV3.jpg

See you next friday when we will cover exciting head to head multiplayer dance-offs used to decide conflicts in peace negotiations!

* Paradox Interactive takes no responsibility for customers suffering from trench feet or sustaining other injuries while enjoying the DDR mat experience.
Great!
I much prefer mudded games over vanilla anyway.

If it's a player choice thing, they can choose to play plausible or not, and it's all good, and I'd expect Greece suddenly fielding a domestically built up-to-date air force and armoured divisions built by the AI would show up in beta testing.
Why wouldn't the AI take the option? If it's the best thing available to them, then it's going to do it.

This is why there are pre-requisites. Not just to control the player making a minor OP, but also because the AI uses the focus tree. It's been confirmed that to get the second research slot you have to in effect become a major, with more than 50 factories.

Only one country IRL was transformed from a minor to a major in 1936-46 IMHO. You can assume that the game is balanced to ensure that this would be the historic outcome, if China can hold on against Japan. There will be no AI Greece fielding the latest TAC and tanks in 1940. I think that would have been spotted ;)

Though no doubt someone will work out how to get a minor from say 15 factories to 50, get the extra research slot and then compete with the major powers in terms of tech. But it would take you three years to get there, and in the meantime the majors will have pulled out a gap. Plus no-one can compete with USA, UK and the Soviet Union in terms of resources or MP.

What is unclear is the meaning of the mix of solid and dotted lines descending below Fighter Focus/Bomber Focus and Flexible Navy/Large Navy, especially the junction below Flexible Navy which is solid while connected to a lateral dotted line linked to Large Navy and Cruiser Effort.

I think the solid line means it is an absolute requirement (if you have two dependencies you need both) whether the dotted lines seems to mean there is an alternative, for example you will need either A or B to get that focus.
