April Fool's Jokes are only funny until somebody sues or gets beaten to a pulp.
Oh, I think I disagree. If someone is humourless enough to sue (or commit assault) over an April Fool I think that would be extremely funny. Especially when the court passes down their sentence!

Do the focuses with two solid lines leading to them require both? For example the second infrastructure effort is linked to both the first infrastructure effort and to line connecting motorized effort and flexible navy. Does that mean you need all three? or just one of the two military efforts and the first infrastructure effort, or just one?
Solid lines connecting from two higher focuses means you have to complete both to make the lower focus available. Dotted lines mean you have to complete just one of them.

It was not a wording used by the Stalinists themselves so it is weird to see it pop up in their own focus tree here.
It's no more weird than:
- Militarism, I doubt the Japanese Militarists called themselves this
- Indoctrination, probably called "political education" by Communists
- Ideological Fanaticism, did they recognise they were fanatics?

There are less than 60 foci on the table - do larger countries get relatively more by design?
Not necessarily, Japan has less. But if you look at the generic Political Effort, there are 19 focuses there. Three are mutually exclusive choices. Depending on which choices you make you can take a maximum of 8 (by choosing Collectivist Ethos, regardless of your second choice) or a minimum of 6 (Liberty then Neutrality). There are two other mutually exclusive choices, but they don't close off whole branches.

So a total of 56 focuses, but the most you could take would be:
- 9 Army
- 6 Aviation
- 6 Naval
- 13 Industrial
- 8 Political
For a total of 42

A number of the options are also restricted by things outside of the tree. I assume @Denkt spotted in one of the videos that the Extra Research Slot II is restricted only to countries that drag themselves up close to major status by having 50 factories. Those political focuses should be heavily restricted depending on your ideology/neutrality. So it's possible that many minors will only get to take about 39 focuses.

Or less if they get stomped on early;). Poland might get to take only 19.

Japan has a smaller overall number of focuses in it's tree - 44. But can take up to 41 of them.

Interesting focus tree. Should make minor powers a little more fun to play then they were in HOI III. Just a few questions though:
1. Will it be possible to create your own faction if you chose the "Liberty" branch over the "Collectivism" branch?
2. Will focus trees be moddable?

The dependencies are mostly vertical, with the main cross-dependency in the tree being that Industrial Effort can't get past tier 4 without Aviation Effort II being completed (and Aviation's rockets have a tier 4 Infrastructure Effort prerequisite. I can see the technical logic for this cross-dependency.

What is unclear is the meaning of the mix of solid and dotted lines descending below Fighter Focus/Bomber Focus and Flexible Navy/Large Navy, especially the junction below Flexible Navy which is solid while connected to a lateral dotted line linked to Large Navy and Cruiser Effort.

Does it mean NAV and Submarine efforts require a Flexible Navy as an absolute prerequisite, and a Flexible Navy also works for Cruiser Effort, but a Large Navy supports only the Cruiser Effort column?
