You already done Shadow Hitler. Can't you do a special Chinese version? Like, put the old flag of the 5 races as KMTs flag and put Tibet under KMT control, shadow Chiang and bam, chinese government friendly version
None of these are issues that led to the original Hearts of Iron being banned in 2004. A news report from the time:
"The PC game, "Hearts of Iron", was accused of distorting historical facts in describing the Fascist regimes of Japan, Germany and Italy during World War II.
Moreover, "Manchuria", "West Xinjiang", and "Tibet" appeared as independent sovereign countries in the maps of the game. In addition, it even included China's Taiwan province as the territory of Japan at the beginning of the game.
"All these severely distort historical facts and violate China's gaming and Internet service regulations," the MOC said. "The game should be immediately prohibited."
HOI3 portrays fascists as what they were, but still insisted that Manchukuo was not part of China - neither Nat or Comm China had claims on it.
Now there is a country correctly called the Republic of China which unites the warlord states, to face the fascist invaders. And an enclave within the country controlled by the Communist Party, which largely mirrors their historical home in Shaanxi following the Long March.
And for the first time in the official HOI games AFAIK, we have a Xi'an Incident and the formation of the United Front, following a period of "border incidents" (low level combat rather than open warfare by Div sized units).
Paradox have gone a long way to accurately represent the complicated politics and issues in China. I was very critical of them last year when I saw a map of 1936 with Yunnan, Guangxi and the Ma's still shown as separate countries, with the possibility they don't co-operate and fight together to hold Japan.
Sorry, I was wrong. The devs have created a China, where the Republic will control nearly all of the factories and resources of the country, conducts all foreign trade and diplomacy, and can enter into agreements to work with the Soviets or the Allies. A China that can trade resources with British Raj that are brought over the Burma Road, and can get lend lease from the USA. A China that can move it's industry inland, and can concentrate it's efforts in developing a massive but poorly equipped army. This is the most historically accurate China they have ever presented to us.
It may still not pass the Chinese censors, because of Tibet. But that doesn't seem to be the object of Paradox in developing the game in this region. They seem genuinely committed to giving us a more interesting game in Asia.
