Yes, I read those dev responses. They've made the Lexington a carrier one, well I suppose so because they have to go by approximate time the carriers were manufactured. However, I think that if they are going that way, then they should make them a variant to start with, with higher deck space to accommodate the historical number of aircraft that the carriers could hold.
Fair assesment. Sounds like a balance pass needs to be done on the initial carrier air capacity of all carrier classes.

Yup, it's clear that many details are sort of fudged in. I can only hope that whatever isn't fixed by release, will have a DLC to correct it.

Oh really? Then explain how Paradox has delayed this game multiple times already?
they gave us an release estimate the last 2 times. First it was december 2014 if i recall correctly. Then mid 2015 and now its simply "its done when its done". But you can somewhat estimate when it comes out, since when they start the CBT they usualy take a few months, probably 2-3 or a bit more depending on the nasty stuff they may find. The game is basicly feature-complete, but requires balancing and bug fixing, which usualy is the most stressing part of development anyway.

With that said the game already runs suprisingly well. Even back in march (?) at the press event it seemed to run extremely stable for an pre-alpha version. Only 2 crashes in 3 days with 23 players, i think that was. They are even comfortable enough to start streaming it already, which is always an good sign.

All in all I'm quite happy about the way carriers work now. I mean for starters, in HoI3 you couldn't actually expand the capacity of your carrier. You could only ever have 2 wings of CAGs for a Fleet and 1 wing for Escorts. Also I'm happy to see the vague and nebulous 'CAG' replaced with actual fighters and bombers.

I think these changes are going to make carriers much more interesting to use as opposed to HoI3 where it seemed like whoever had the most was just the winner.

Will the stats of the second generation Carriers depend on the stats of the first one? For example if we invest a buttload of naval experience in upgrading the First gen. carrier is there a chance that the second one in its basic version will be worse in some regards to the old one?

Are you serious? It used to have a release date, which got delayed a few times until they gave up on having one.
Are you serious? There is no question that someone at Paradox knows when they plan to release it. Plus, they have given us estimates, you can delay that estimate.

Cheers for the DD Johan, and the extra info from you and Podcat :). Love what you've done with the carriers. While I'll likely mod in CVLs and CVEs for m'self, it's no reflection of the quality of the base game, more just a personal preference.

Quick question, if easy/time allows, although definitely understand time is at a premium:

- How do CV aircraft get replenished? Do they have to go back to port or within a certain range, or could the US potentially station TF 38 outside off the coast of Japan (without having taken any islands within aircraft range to provide air supply) forever? How fast do CV aircraft get replenished?

I like the way that the size for CVs is set at a base that can 'kind of' take CVLs into account as well. I also like the way you’ve balanced decksize with armour – that should go some way to representing the capacity/defence choice made by the USN/RN over the period (I know it’s not this simple, but that we’ve got this choice at all is a step up from HoIs past).

I'm still not sold on some of those build times (as long as the max factory cap hasn't changed), but as long as it's possible to mod, it's all good with me (and if it isn't, you should still back your decisions - you're making your game, not mine :)), and even if it isn't, I'll cope (although I may not have the courage to play Japan) :).

I hope I can spend all of sunday just playing the game and no unforseen stuff pops up though :)

Chance of enemy landing critical hits on you in combat (5x damage, and nasty if torpedo). having weak armor vs enemy guns (piercing) also increases this chance

Really, really like this - this relationship will make modelling carrier warfare much easier, as well as easier to reflect the differences between different carriers.

The Lexington could hold 90 aircraft. What is this 30 aircraft thing?

My source has the Lexington with a capacity of 63 in '36. Still a good ways below 30, but hopefully 30 is their 'base', and the actual Lexington in-game is buffed with a bit of experience to push out the deck space and some armour. I don't have any sources that give the Lexington 90 aircraft (at least operationally) though, are you perhaps thinking of the Essex class Lexington? Speaking from experience, memory deteriorates over 40 :). Hope you and Lollard had/have happy birthdays :).

I would just assume that Lexington`s plane capacity is like this right now, because devs didn`t get thrugh assigning variants to existing ships. Lexington should be high-deck-capacity variant of 1922 carrier.For basic one, 30 planes makes total sence.

You can spend navy xp, to make special variants, as we have mentioned earlier. Where carriers have the possibility to increase reliability, armor, engine and decksize.
