IKR. If only France noticed the name of their malus modifier, they would not be so blasé about their stagnating doctrine development.
I told that already but can someone explay me why France would have that modifier and not Britain ? Did Britain had better ground troops during WW2 ? Did they win WW1 less than France ?

Before we plunge into discussion of how French and British army performed, remind me, do we know the british national values?
In 1939, the UK was the only nation in the war with a fully professional (if very small) army in the war. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Highly doubtful. UK army in 1940, was drafted, like the rest.

Very true. I suppose with the new, more sandboxish gameplay there are more options than before, Especially for a player controlled France. Used to be a pain to find a France player in MP games.


Not really. A MP France player is a beast, unless you ALSO hobble them with house rules.... The battle of France is way, way more draining on Germany; which in turn puts them in a nasty spot for Barbarossa.

Maybe Britain does have that modifier, but I don't know for sure. By that standard the USA, Belgium and Italy should also have that modifier. It does seem to me that whatever doctrinal stagnation effected the Allies during the Battle of France should be applied to both the UK and France.

Let me put it more clearly: It is highly doubtful that UK doesn`t (if it doesn`t, why knows) get malus similar to French, for a reason of "professional" army, since the British army that actually fought WW2, was drafted, similarly to all others. After war started, draft was introduced.

The point, as I understand it, is more about French over self-confidence due to globally being the WWI winner. Not that UK, USA and all other allies have nothing to do with this, of course, but France between the wars was considered as the best army of the world, which was right in 1918-1919, also probably a quite long time after that, but which leaded to an army unable to question itself when the strategic things appealed to that, in the late '30s.

Mistake confirmed. I was talking about the British regulars at the start of the Great War.

Only three political factions is kind of disappointing. I thought the community rejected EU4 mana. Why does it seem like we're getting the same thing in HoI4?

As opposed to the nine political ideologies in HOI3 that ended up being useless beyond fascism, communism, and democracy as broad groups. How many players of HOI3 would even notice if you removed six ideologies and just left three in for election/diplomacy purposes? How many players that play HOI3 even know that there is a fascist ideology and a national socialist ideology, and that they aren't even the same thing?

If the Devs want to remove a useless feature to make something that actually works better, I'm all for it.

Neat feature. I like the part where you can potentially disband an alliance of sorts ... or create one. So I guess it is possible to select the US and create "NATO", PAN-AM, or something like it with a catchier title?

How many players that play HOI3 even know that there is a fascist ideology and a national socialist ideology, and that they aren't even the same thing?

If the Devs want to remove a useless feature to make something that actually works better, I'm all for it.
I have a lot of hours into HOI 3 and I didnt know there was actually anything other then those three factions.... I just thought they were flavor names.

I have a lot of hours into HOI 3 and I didnt know there was actually anything other then those three factions.... I just thought they were flavor names.

Load up as Germany and go to the politics screen. Look at your available ministers and check their ideology.

Not all are NSDAP folks.

Only three political factions is kind of disappointing. I thought the community rejected EU4 mana. Why does it seem like we're getting the same thing in HoI4?

Discontent is typically always over represented. I liked the monarch point system and would like to see further iteration on it.

The thing about EUIVs monarch points (and im not saying they are either good or bad) is that they introduce a limiter into the game so you have to make informed decisions about what the best choice for spending them is. This doesnt really exist in EU when you think about money, maybe to a degree in the early game but beyond a certain point certainly not.
Its not uncommon to have these kind of "limiters" in a game as an important aspect is choice, if there werent any "limiters" you might aswell play a sandbox game (some people does enjoy this remember).
EUIV does however suffer a bit because theres 3 kinds of "limiters" depending on what you want to "buy" at the same time the "income" of these are dependent on a monarch which you as the player to for all intends and purposes do not have any control over (except if playing a republic). This can add some annoyance if you gain a really bad monarch or get two bad in a row etc. the random factor even though weighted towards a "neutral" monarch can be a bit much at times.
In HoI4 theres only one capital of this sort not three and at the same time we know exactly how much are at our disposal and can plan accordingly. Heck instead of Political Power they could have called it Money and have pay for focii and hire ministers, staff and companies. Ofcourse in that case people would have found it strange that it wasnt linked to trade but would it have changed peoples mind about the feature? maybe.

This is incorrect. You can optimize your choices to gain monarch points, as well as gaining large amounts of monarch point sinks, like stability. So, for instance, by player action alone, you can get an extra 6 monarch points, and a few smart choices can get you 2-3 more effective ones through aiming for stab events that normal play wouldn't encounter. That's half your monarch points, coming solely from player action.
