Sorry for the dumb question, but I have seen in many screenshots of DD those sketched lines that sometimes connect ports. What are they?

I thought they where something like trade routes with other countries or something similar, but in this DD's screenshot I can see a line connecting Napoli to Olbia so I'm a bit confused (and curius).

Convoys, most likely. The ones going between Italian provinces are supply convoys, I would guess, seeing that they're connecting land provinces separated by water.

Okay, so having read all the dev posts and understanding the details and your reasoning a little more, I have to say I'm looking forward to this. I will miss the freedom of putting embargoes on people or choosing who to trade with, but I'll live. I put trade on automated in HOI3 anyhow, and my one biggest gripe was that you simply couldn't tell the game things like "please don't enter trades that make me have to ship things with convoys".

I do like the idea that you don't have control over where private business trades resources but you can issue embargoes and reserve a percentage for domestic use. I am a bit disappointed about the loss of stockpiles though. Also not seeing refined fuel on there which was a big deal. Can't just chuck crude oil in an engine in most cases.

Question though, you mentioned that convoys were automatic. Do they appear on the map as ships that can be sunk or trucks that could be bombed?

Hopefully you can give ships as otherwise Russia would need to build a navy to get supplies from the UK/USA which were carried by mostly UK/USA in the war.

I'm intrigued by the lack of coal as a resource requirement... is the reasoning that just about everyone had or could import sufficient coal; or is it subsumed under 'oil', or is there some other reason I haven't thought of? There must have been some thought put to it?

if everyone has it there isnt much interesting gameplay about it. Same reason we dont have you build socks for your soldiers.

Maybe sender of Lendlease equipment uses his own ships. That would make sense.

Huh. As I understand it, the Japanese attack against the western powers was motivated at least in part by a desire to secure access to the oil supplies that said powers were refusing to sell to them. If I recall correctly, Japan had actually reached the point where they felt they had to seize foreign regions of oil production, or their ability to wage war in China wold be severely curtailed. In the game, as I understand it, things will work in precisely the opposite manner- the U.S. will sell Japan as much oil as Japan wants until Pearl Harbor (which now must be motivated by events or abstract game mechanics, rather than being almost a necessity for Japan to continue its aggressive program in China), at which point Japan may suffer a temporary shortage until it can secure oil-producing regions. Seems rather odd.

Care to explain why?

It's because I like to be in control. Somehow Paradox doesn't give trade the love it deserves. Victoria 2 was very close to having a good-ish trade system but since then it has been on the decline.
Also, I don't know why we can't have stockpiles. Seems like a very weird decision.

EDIT: After reading the very informative posts after the OP I think most of my reservation are lessened.

Guess I'll wait for the in depth reviews before making the decision of buying though.
