Podcat's mentioned that these were trashed. Presumably somewhat replaced with the combination of population and infrastructure limits on IC.

yeah we cut raw materials when we added population and infra caps on industry. But raw materials was never a tradeable resource, it was simulating local coal and such and giving you an incentive to conquer neighbors (which wasnt needed due to other strat resources)

Will it be moddable, so if we want we can change spelling of words without changing the checksum?

My guess would be yes, as different localization versions ought to be compatible in multiplayer.

And the current incentive to conquer other territories are:
1. To increase the number of factories ( IC ).
2. Increase population ( manpower ) ?

By the way is the population/manpower handled different compared to factories for new provinces? And is conquered territory that you gained in a peacedeal more "effective" than territory you just temporarily occupy on the front?

I think he meant steel, aluminum, rubber, oil, chromium, tungsten was already there as an incentive. Like from the picture in the DD you can see that Italy doesnt have chromium but theres chromium in Albania. Which im sure is a quite good incentive to actually use the national focus to go to war with Albania. Also theres Chromium in Yugoslavia, again incentive to meddle there instead of just leaving them be. Greece also has Chromium according to the trade window. Greece and Yugoslavia together has more of this than the UK has (atleast up for export to italy).
Austria has a tiny bit of oil which i assume is going to be a really needed ressource for germany, this will further the incentive to anschluss them.

I see this as making a lot of sense. Two separate caps on production would have tied-up a lot of number-crunching time for no real point. I much prefer reliance on the strategic resources as these were (and can be considered) the raw materials anyway.

Adding to the question about the Soviets moving large numbers of people about, along with the factories. The capability to move population would be required for the US shipyards in Richmond, whose population more than quadrupled in three years.

Or... seeing as it's the USA and they can pretty-much build whatever they want, wherever they want without it really affecting the world stage, (for example, they're not going to be subjected to strat' bombing anyway) does this matter?

I'm wondering if a basic supply/demand system will be put into place. For example, say I want X steel and am willing to trade a maximum of Y factories to get it (factories are essentially money). As long as supply exceeds demand, the actual number of factories I pay is some arbitrary minimum number. When demand begins to exceed supply the cost goes up to whatever is the clearing price for the goods and those who do not offer enough factories for the goods they want either get a reduced amount of goods or get nothing. This way an economic powerhouse could decide to divert part of its factories to cripple enemy production by denying them the raw materials they need.

The big reason for conquest is to get victory points because the winning side is the one that control most victory points if it is like the old HOI.

The issue with using money is, while in real life the value of trade could be converted into a myriad of things ranging from health care to food and commercial goods, in a game like HoI4 there is no reason to model these expenses. If all your money is going into war equipment and infrastructure, why model it at all? You can accomplish all the same choices without adding in the obsfucating layer of "money", which in itself is terribly inaccurate representation at a national level anyways.

That doesn't seem right. Usually, graphical changes don't modify the checksum at all. I would have assumed that this include localization.

Yes so I need to explain as I did a very poor job. If you change a name of an event for example and this file happens to be in say GermanEvents.txt then this will change the checksum of the game no matter what localization you are using.

No, that's just the end result. You invade countries to eliminate threats, deny your enemies resources, and strengthen your own side.

Yes so I need to explain as I did a very poor job. If you change a name of an event for example and this file happens to be in say GermanEvents.txt then this will change the checksum of the game no matter what localization you are using.
So when you change the localization in an event file, that changes the checksum? I don't think that that's how you change localizations in the more recent PDS games, and I've used mods that change country names just fine in multiplayer.

You can use the localization in the localization file, however if you use straight text in the event file (which can be done) as jju said it will cause a checksum change as event files are used in checksum creation
