Support battalions are assumed to use the same manner of transportation so yes.

(Assuming you mean support companies not support battalions...)

So for motorized divisions support companies of AT/Art provide a comparatively cheap option compared to a full blown mobile TD/SPArt Battalion? The full blown battaltions might be preferred if you want to maximize firepower to combat width though. (Are TD Battalions zero width?)

For non-motorized divisions would there a game play be a reason pick Support Company Art in some cases and a full Battaltion of Art in another or is it just flavour? ( "I am Russia so I don't care about casualties but some more Art firepower from a support company would be nice!" ???)

Is it the same "cost" to change support companies in templates as for full batallions?

A question about templates (again) - hope for an answer.

So it costs some experience points (!) to add a new one or to change a template - what if I just wan't a few different names for the divisions? Does copying a template and changing ONLY the names costs experience points?

Used for instance if I would like to create a militia unit (less training and such) - however, the template stays the same, I just want different names for the units?

Also, is there a dev about template names yet? What you can do with the units name and such?

just making a copy with another name doesnt cost anything. you need to change the actual makeup for that.

Cheers for the DD, and loving the attention given to division design. Yes, it's not the same as building an individual TO & E up from companies (pffft companies?! platoons or go home!) but I think the current approach is a great balance between strategic flexibility and decision making (and accessibility) and insane levels of detail (which I'm sure we'll see in mods - maybe someone will put together a mod that builds divs from individual companies - in fact, I'd bet good money one'll pop up at some stage). It's a huge step forward from HoI3 (or 2 or 1) in terms of the amount of detail we get in each unit, and I can't wait to try out some different units.

Love the tech tree as well, and those NATO counters look tops (not that I minded the Paradox counters, but I'll probably roll with NATO counters m'self).

A couple of questions, if easy to answer and not inappropriate:

- If I have a div with a logistics support element, and I change it to a template with a field hospital support element (that looks like it requires the same type of equipment) does my logistics unit change into a field hospital instantly, or is there a bit of a transition time? (I'd personally like to see a transition time, but that's just my 2 cents).

- Would it be fair to say that the sheer number of different types of equipment will limit the capacity of smaller countries to field 'full strength' divisions with all the bells and whistles attached (well, if they can't convince the US to lend-lease them the gear)? If so, this looks like a great way of limiting the capacity of smaller nations to field 'modern' armies (at least without support from a larger ally) in a sensible, plausible way :).

@Johan - is it really your birthday? You wrote us a dev diary at 7.07 on your birthday?! You're insane (in a good way :)) and awesome all at once :D. Have a Happy Birthday :).

So we know, that artillery can be added as combat part, not just support...
But wat about anti-air, recon, anti-tank, engineer? Is it possible to add those as combat elements as well, not only as support?
From what they have said: Yes, No, Yes, and not a clue.

So now that you obviously have Nato counters in the game. Which do you devs normally use? At the moment i still feel the "normal" icon are better looking and matches the feel of the game more.
Again, symbols not counters. And if you actually read the dev posts at the time...they have both (like always).

There will be no longer garisons divisions. Some people suggested that we should make/use bad infantry instead...
Not bad infantry exactly.

Lets assume your normal (frontline) infantry division is: 10 infantry battalions, 2 artillery battalions, plus an AA support company. Your Garrison (i.e., keeps the proles under control) would be basically the same without the heavy weapons (no artillery battalions) but adding an MP company. It would also have a lower priority for reinforcements and replacements.

This is great
Btw, Can these supporting battalions be assigned to the 5 brigades? The slots for the supporting units are not enough as you mentioned but IMO the slots for the infantry and armored battalions are too many.
Not really, it's to accomodate for both smaller "brigades" such as the German regiments, and larger ones such as the Commonwealth & American ones which had their brigades as a combined arms force with Infantry, sometimes armour and included artillery and such.

?, potato tomato. Yes theres nato symbols on the small rectangle pieces that move around on the board. Afaik thats the definition of a counter, hence it can be called a nato counter. But tbh is it even worth quoting me if you know what i mean and refer to?
From what in my post did you come to the concluson that im not perfectly aware that they have both in the game?, which i am and which can be read between the lines. But then again its the first time we seen the Nato ones in the game.
And if you really did read what i wrote i asked what the devs used. There was the possibility that they might have changed their opinion on nato vs "normal" symbols after they got implemented.

Great, now it's even more streamlined and dumbed down :( .

(/Irony)
How is changing unit creation from 5 basic brigades to being able to choose the components of each brigade "dumbed down"? I've been wishing for this battalion type Division creation since HoI2, thinking the brigade only system didn't allow much flexibility

I've just had a look at the makeup of SS Division Reich in 1941. Assuming that all Art, AT & AA guns are assigned to combat brigades, we have the following support elements:

Recon: 6 companies
Engineer: 6 companies
Logistics: 6 company equivalents
Signals: 5 company equivalents
Maintenance: 4 company equivalents
Medical: 3 company equivalents
Military Police: 1 platoon

With only 1 MP platoon, it has to get dropped, but that still leaves 6 types of support companies, all with 3-6 actual companies and only 5 slots. The smallest group is the medical, but the Germans had greater success in returning wounded troops to service than many other nations, so it doesn't seem right to drop it. Next smallest is maintenance, but the Germans were better than most at recovering damaged equipment on the battlefield so it doesn't seem right to drop it either. Then were getting into signals, but good signals were integral to the Germans coordinated method of waging war so we can't drop it. Next are the engineers and recon with 6 companies each. Are we seriously going to drop the recon ability from German motorised divisions and given the desperate defence demonstrated by the Germans over the 41/42 winter that pretty much held the line after the initial Soviet attacks ran out of steam, are we going to drop the engineers? I don't think so. Limiting the support column to 5 slots might make for interesting choices for players, but its going to short change the major powers and prove to be maddeningly frustrating for players who are also interested in the history.

For anyone interested, my take on the division's combat brigades is as follows:
Bde 1: 3 x Mot Inf Bns, 2 x Art Bns (1 of regimental infantry guns and 1 of light field howitzers assigned from the Artillery Regiment)
Bde 2: as Bde 1
Bde 3: 3 x Mot Inf Bns, 1 x Art Bn (lt field howitzers), 1 x AT Bn (regimental AT companies)
Bde 4: 2 x Mot Inf Bns (the motorcycle and recon battalions with 10 companies in total after assigning 1 recon company to the support group)
Bde 5: 2 x Mot Inf Bns (engineer & field replacement battalions with 8 companies after assigning 1 engineer company to the support group), 1 x Art Bn (the heavy field howitzers), 1 x AT Bn, 1 x AA Bn

I understand that some poorer countries only fielded companies of engineers or recon, but the major powers tended to field whole battalions in their divisions. Accordingly I'd really like to see engineers and recon as combat battalions that can be assigned to brigades, and still provide the bonus for having them in the division. Just limit a division to getting the bonus once in case players want to stack 2 engineers or 2 recon battalions in the one division.

So we know, that artillery can be added as combat part, not just support...
But wat about anti-air, recon, anti-tank, engineer? Is it possible to add those as combat elements as well, not only as support?
probably already been answered but support divisions with an + icon are avaiable both for support and combat slots.
