So you have like 12 batallions in each division and play Soviet Union with 1200 divisions. How many individual names will you see on map? And if you put 10 divisions in key point that you intend to hold? I don't think it is feasible from interface viewpoint.

Not on-map. But when clickin on a division to see what regiments are in etc.

I would just like some clarification on this point. Does this just mean you can use the icon for Armor for a division even though the most important parts of the division are infantry, i.e., use another generic icon for a different type of unit? Or does this mean we could have customized icons from which we could select to use to identify unique units for immersion purposes -- An evil looking black icon (but not forbidden, of course) for SS divisions, or a screaming eagle for the 101st, etc.

Just allow a qualified selection of icon as an attribute of a template. For example, a division with 2 infantry regiment and and tank regiment can either be an infantry division or a tank division, but a division with all infantry can only be infantry division.

Um... is it just me but aren't they saying NATO symbols are only for the division planner? Considering the context and nowhere did they talk about having NATO counters on the map.

Yes, their position on this hasn't changed since the game has been announced. You will be able to use NATO style symbols in place of the new HoI symbols where ever they are used in the interface, but there will be no option to have only counters, no sprites, on the map.

You are probably right. I might have misinterpreted the diary on this point. But nevertheless, I think we will see a good game when it comes our way :)

Ps. Can I get a boxed copy with a written manual and a HOI IV poster? I would gladly pay the double price compared to a download :D. Ds.

Nice DD. However, this:
Johan said:
You can have multiple productions of the same type, with any amount of lines in each, but they all have a common priority and a target deployment.
will make the auto-deployment feature pretty much useless. Why force the player to send ALL divisions of the same type to the same place? Please change it so that there is an option to send divs of a given type in a given production line to the place of your choosing.

For a moment it seemed that You were dismissing your most loyal brigade for some crazy Steam $$$:s and My First Sony user interface ideas... The last thing I want to see when I'm planning an infantry advance is a helmet with health bars or the dude from Call of Duty doing push ups. Thank you for actually listening.

.... and take my money already! :)

(BTW. those Paradox-counters don't really look half that bad. I might want to try some of those when I am looking millions of soldiers at one glance)

I may be misinterpreting PDS's statements here, but I think what they are talking about here specifically is having (and have always been planning to have) NATO symbols instead of the little helmet/tank icons. You'll still have the sprites/unit cards combo (with your choice of symbols/icons) on the main map. I wouldn't want all the "counters only or death" crowd to get all excited and then even more upset later because they misunderstand something in the DD and then blame Paradox for "taking it away again".

If I'm wrong and Paradox is taking it a step further, then it's all good :D

Yes, I understand that they could just allow you to choose from a limited number of icons in vanilla. However, I was hoping that they were giving us tools that could be used in modding so that the US 1st Infantry could be represented by a Big Red 1, the 92nd could be represented by a Buffalo icon, the 101st by the Eagle, Italian CCNN by fasces bundles, the 132nd Ariete by a Ram, etc. The division insignia can be superimposed upon the appropriate NATO icon to create icons that are attractive, informative and immersive.

Nice read.

Question: In the division designer you can read that the unit consumes 0,42 supplies. Is fuel included in that number?

Suggestion: The color-coded stripes that marks the different commands looks ok when there's only a few commanders on the bottom of the screen. When there's about five or more of them it looks rather confusing. Perhaps it would be better to only use a stripe on the bottom or the top of the portraits?

We have always planned to have a choice between nato symbols and our own icons.
So no just counters without 3d models option? Just change in symbols that are shown in existing "counters"?

SS Division just appears to be a Motorised Division.

Unrealistically so.

I doubt there's going to be an SS division in the game from the start. I think it's just a customized division they made.

Do we already know what the star means? They seem to be some sort of resource used in building divisions, but I am not sure what they represent or how they are earned.

If you mean the star next to the division template as they are being build: That's the experience bar of the division in training.

If you mean the stars in the division designer: That's land experience. It costs you land experience to edit or create divisions.

There's also naval and air experience, they are needed to make variants of ships and airplanes.

I think with the current HOI IV system you could mod in a battalion type 'Big Red 1' and give it the unit patch or as already seen the 42nd Rainbow Division unit type. The Big Red 1 battalion type can have the same stats as a normal infantry battalion or something special. I am hopeful that you can tag the type unbuildable and just load the one off divisional template with the unique battalion type with an event loaded OOB.

I just give movement orders to India and if the sealanes are more or less open, move of them arrive.

Hm, do you still see a fleet of transports moving from place to place with the units on board? Or is this abstracted (like HOI3 convoys)?

I'm also curious whether it's as easy to move large stacks of units across the seas as it was in past HOI games. Although I suppose you can mod the transport costs to mitigate that.

I'm excited about this feature, but one thibg worries me though.

If some of your standard or reserve duvisions see a lot of combat and gain a lot of exp, will you be able to grab that specific division and shift it's template in order for it to receive better equipment?

I think it's important to keep shuffleing the roles when not everyone gains the experience you expected.

The reserve tag of that unit only determines their supply and reinforcement prioritiy, nothing else. They use the same template as an elite unit of the same type, the elite unit simply gets better equipment earlier. You can probably just click on the reserve division and raise their priority.
