because it was working very badly in hoi3? Also, chances are it still will be moddable.

I imagine that the AI will only take into consideration the amount of troops present at the borders, rather than calculate your entire army (which it arguably shouldn't be aware of?)

Occupying the rhineland required troops present, and I imagine it could work in similiar fashion if it doesn't already.

Is there any place I can watch the full stream in a lower quality? I can't exactly afford the amount of data the video uses.

Then, don't worry about it. Nothing new, just read the DDs here. Only 15 min. out of over an hour was on HOI4.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what they mean. The tanks will all be different, every single one. Unless someone takes the exact same tank paths as you. My guess is you will get choices for different setups, armor, gun, engine. I think we might be assuming those will all be exactly the same, we might see a more indepth tech tree from stuff like that, they are really going for stuff to chose to effect and impact how things work. So it will be groups of techs that you research that make the tanks unique. There will be pathing for each tank, possible. Like the T-34 can get slopped armor while Panzer 4s are limited. We don't know, but I can totally see how you can make things still have attributes and advantages even if each tank base is the same, you do it by pathing mechanism. EX: if I have a Panzer 4 I might be able to upgrade to a 75 mm gun quickly and while a T-34 might have to go to a 76 mm or a 57 mm, depending on year. However the T-34 is much more capable of being changed and diversify then any other tank, it was the bone behind the Soviet army, even though its been around since 41. Germany had to responded with Tigers and Panther which dominated but were incapable of mass production to the extent of the T-34s. I'm assuming they will build in systems like that, make each nation have certain advantages. Or not, if they don't I bet the system is ttotally capable of being attack by mods and changed to be better. I doubt they skip out on one of the big 3, Artillery, Airplanes, Tanks. If they did I bet it will be extremely easily modable and changed quickly or perhaps dlc. I think its important that Germany during 42 and til the end of the war has the best tanks on the battlefield and I hope they will take that into account. Ever German Tiger division killed at least 2 for every tiger it lost. Most of the time from getting stuck and what not. Some of the best had 16 to 1 ratios, I don't think they would ignore the Tigers and Panther huge advantage over enemies. I hope they have some system to represent the great struggle of complex engineering versus mass production. Of course I don't know for sure, just know they are really doing pathing stuff, so I'm assuming they are doing it across the market.

Well i remember them saying that all of the tanks are really all the same with just with different flavor names. It is really up to how advanced you can get your armored forces and still maintain some sort of balance with the other tech trees. Also experience and the whole chassis upgrade thing carries into it

Note- this is what it seems like to me from reading all the stuff that people of posted

That is exactly what they said. There need to be national modifiers though (maybe simply via doctrines). The Germans and Russians had by far the best tanks. It's not correct to assume that any nation could have replicated that quality. There are different levels of engineering skills.
Also take subs as an example: The Japanese didn't utilize them as convoy raiders, but regular fighting vessels. Completely stupid decision, probably caused by some Samurai codex sh*t. Meanwhile US and German subs were pretty nasty convoy raiders. In previous HoI games it was up to mods (like CORE) to simulate that. Japan got a national modifier to reduce convoy raiding efficiency.
The tank issue was simulated in HoI2 via tech team. Hopefully PDS will find a satisfying solution for HoI4.

Yeah, because you as a player shouldn't be able to decide how to use your forces. What's next? Should there be a national modifier for every division that that reduces its org if it's not at the correct historical point in time and space?

Yes, clearly the Japanese Empire, a nation capable of constructing Aircraft Carriers, Jet Aircraft, and the largest Submarine in WW2, is completely incapable of constructing tanks as good as or better than the Soviets or Germans in any alternative timeline.
Even if the Empire actually makes tanks a huge priority from 1936, and does not divert resources to other projects, like the navy.
Even if they decide to strike north and engage the Soviets in years of intense combat, and develop an extreme need for better tanks.
Even if they become one of the most experienced nations in the whole world at armoured combat.

(I'm being sarcastic, by the way)

yeah, we have added a lot of support for modding, you can do entirely country specific tech trees if you like that look completely different should you want to.

And how can we do country specific tech trees? Each country will have its own tech file?

M5 would be an M3 thats been improved by experience in our system.

And how many experience-based upgrades will tanks have?

Most likely all the important countries that have a unique tech tree will have their own file, then there will be a common tech file for every other country with the generic techs

Whoever still thinks its a good idea for diverse stats for different countries' medium tanks despite having the exact same technology, should really reconsider.
