Hi everyone

We just announced Semper Fi, the first expansion for Hearts of Iron 3.

Here's the pressrelease:

http://www.paradoxplaza.com/press/2010/4/hearts-of-iron-3-expansion-announced

for you lazy people:

Paradox Announces Hearts of Iron 3: Semper Fi

NEW YORK – April 6th, 2010 – Paradox Interactive unveiled Hearts of Iron 3: Semper Fi, a downloadable expansion to its World War II grand strategy game. Semper Fi gives players more control over their country’s warfare and politics, while pleasing history buffs with a variety of new features and events. Hearts of Iron 3: Semper Fi is scheduled for release during Q2 2010.

“Our vision for Semper Fi is to transport the player into World War II in a way that previous installments have not been able to do,” said Henrik Fåhraeus, Associate Producer at Paradox Interactive. “For instance, negotiating and working with the allies was a huge part of WW2 and players are now able to experience that first hand. Also, our historical buffs have long been screaming for more historical accuracy in our games, and while the game still won’t follow history to the letter, these historical events will create a stronger experience by giving you historical references and feedback alongside gameplay.”

Semper Fi Features include:

  • Player-determined hidden victory conditions that will keep opponents guessing
  • Greater cooperation with allies, allowing players to request troops, convince their allies to attack a specific target and more
  • Hundreds of new events added to immerse players in their own version of World War II, comparing the unfolding, alternate timeline to real history
  • Vastly improved AI that will defend its territories valiantly, marshal large naval taskforces and launch multi-stage invasions

I have a tattoo with "Semper Fi" on my arm, I fail what that has to do with the HoI3 expansion pack.

And if you're gonna use that term, why not use the full "Fidelis" instead of the shortcut?

We fail to see what your arm has to do with Hearts of Iron.

What? Maybe I should rephrase. The Marine Corps motto is "Semper Fidelis," shortened by Marines like myself to Semper Fi because we are too uncultured to speak Latin.

Well, the name was supposed to be Semper Fidelis, but I kept saying Semper Fi to people.. since I'm uncultured as well.

My goal with this project is to make sure the Pacific Campaign gets the attention it deserves and have lacked in all previous hoi games.

Probably a similar price to what other expansions such as HTTT or IN have been in the past.

Yes, we know how much we can get into an expansion now, and how much they sell. Look at amount of features and cost of things like In Nomine, Vae Victis and Deus Vult for this.

On another note, when can we expect Dev Diaries?

Soon. I'm hoping we can have thursdays as the dd for SF.

No supply changes... And I shudder to think how gamespeed will change with a new AI on board. If these issues get resolved, we may have a winner.

We are making sure that the game should at least be at the speed of 1.4.

Ive been holding out until I was hearing generally good reports about HOI3 before I parted with my cash but I had a couple of questions nevertheless.

1) I always considered nation-specific brigade/regiment names as a must have and I dont believe they were in HOI3. Will we be seeing these this time-or at least the ability to designate a file to handle this ourselves?

Its on my list of "optional features" if we get time for it. At least I hope we can add in support for modders (and have defaults for the majors)

2) I seem to recall hearing that the map for continental USA was lacking in terms of the borders of individual states not really conforming...ie, state boundaries looked messed up, which is a hassle for modding. Any word on this aside from 'you can tinker with this yourself'?

Borders of provinces in HoI3 is based on "common size" of provinces, and are not fitting to any internal historical borders anywhere. This is for how the combat engine works.

What about supply system? Is it getting ovehaul?

We're looking into some minor tweaks to it, hoping to MAYBE support convoys inside an area, as thats the only current problem with the system. (Italy gets screwed in Med as an example if they conquer all coasts.)

My only question is "Will this be available on steam?" I noticed Majesty 2 Kingmaker was not available on steam and unfortunately my copy of HOI3 is from steam.

yes it will.

And again I will just ask, if someone can clarify - maybe I am missing it because I have not seen it *specifically* stated, but by fixing the OOB, with this new "drag and drop" feature, will that fix the problems of taking hours to set up army groups, with constant attaching, and re-working HQ divisions? That was something I found most tedious and frustrating in HOI3 vs HOI2, and I just want to make sure thats what the expansion means it will address.

Yes, the purpose of the OOB browser is to facilitate setting up your OOB.
