It makes complete sense. You want Albania to become independent. The rest of the world disagrees. They suggest you drop the matter. You refuse the peaceful option and declare war. Well, now you have to put your money where your mouth is. The thing to understand about crises is that nothing stops you from giving up. If you're not willing to give up, then be willing to make war. If you don't want to be on the losing side of crises, always wait until one side is a clear winner, and risk the potential prestige penalty of the crises being resolved without you.

Hi Kimberly,
Just to clarify, you mean I will get a prestige hit if the crisis resolved before I can pick a side?

I think so, yes. That's what the tooltip when hovering over the Support button seems to indicate.

Hmm... if this is the case, then the current crisis system is somewhat broken, in my opinion.
You know once you had reached a certain size & military score, nobody will dare to go against you? And as human player, my usual operandi modus is always to offer peace on my term immediately, didn't realize that all other AIs will get prestige hit. I know it is an exploit. But bloody hard not to do it that way.
Paradox, please take that temptation away from me.

I don't see what's exploitive about that. Offering a solution that the other person accepts should give everyone who decided to hold back a penalty; they did not play any role in the solution to the conflict, lowering their importance on the world stage. If it wasn't in place, you could join a crisis to avoid the penalty for not joining, and then never take a side without consequence. (They fixed the bug where the AI will always accept if you immediately offer a solution once the crisis starts, by the way.)

If it's not the best topic, plz remove to better one.

I would like to put in some comments on HOD.

1.) It sure has much more detail and for that very "user friendly" but in general, my thumb is down for now.

2.) In every game, economy is my part of the game. On the first page of this thread (if I remember correctly) it has been said that factories will be fixed. I played bigger and smaller counties, tried everything I could think of but it's not working. The real point aren't unprofitable factories but the fact you need to run unprofitable factories to get SCORE!!! I monitored the trade board for some time. At any given time there's not more than 4 products that have higher deman then supply. So, nothing changed with factories. The best part of the game still broken. Also, I really don't understand why we can't build any kind of factory anywhere for any product. If I don't have the input, I'll import it. Maybe the market will not allow positive balance, I'll close down the factory. Of course that if you build steel factory in province that has iron mine, it should get lower cost of inputs, as it's a gable to produce something that it's depending on import of goods but that's all normal economy.
2.) Rebels were also mentioned. Yes, it's nicer not to chase rebels all the time and I like that. But you can't tell me that it's better to have 30k rebel army that was produced by 60k province (nationalist case). Now I am looking whats the point of that? Nationalist could ask for their own country (solid reason). In history 90% of colonies went to new countries without war (first problem). That was in situation where my whole Portugal couldn't maintain 30k army as I could not draft 10 brigades or support them even if I could built them so it's sill that rebels in 1 province outnumber whole country (second problem). EIC in India didn't maintain power with armies but with politics and money and I can't do that in game (third problem). So if those nationalist want their country, it's out of the question, but they are asking for some reason (high taxes, low healthcare...). So why not introduce simple negotiations where they would ask for 10 years of lower taxes, or some kind of more money for their healthcare so it would affect my budget (money is the power. In this way the problems with the rebels stay as they are but the solutions are different (make a good deal, kill them if you want and get some penalty for being brutal colonial power...). There are zillion ideas and all are better then this simple "kill smaller packs of rebels" or "kill bigger packs of rebels".
3.) In HOD income is fluctuating at insane levels while nothing is happening (I am not building, there's no war...). Currently I am testing that in 1 game. It goes for 140tish to 30tish per few days (I don't have factories, that are the biggest evil of the budget by the way). My only idea is that market prices are fluctuating and causing this problem. Before HOD this wasn't happening.
4.) Colonization is dead beat. Part of the game only for the biggest few. Most of the games I played, GB took all of Africa in just a few years. I have read somewhere that HOD wanted that colonization isn't monopolized. But, unfortunately, it is. The old system was better. Also, size of the fleet increases colonial point? Well that is the biggest monopolizing effect.
5.) Uncivilized countries in HOD totally unplayable. By the time you get civilised and can maintain some kind of army, every county is is in someones SOI and allied with zillion other countries. Before, I pushed Madagascar to secondary power.
6.) Justification for war - how long does it last when you get it??? Maybe it's a bug.
7.) Standing armies at the start of the game? Algiers with 2x 18k armies??? LOL Every year some county goes bankrupt and this could be No1 reason.

....no more time to write. I have only the best intentions.

Best regards.

Hmmm... maybe I have not been as attentive as I had thought. As far as I could tell, if the great powers reached a solution before I clicked to support, I lost no prestige (though I gained none either). Only if it came to war before I committed did I lose any prestige. Has this really been happening without my noticing?

I don't know, I always pick a side. XD If it's not giving you a prestige penalty for not taking a side, that should probably be changed. Otherwise there's no incentive to pick one.

Revolt risk in Victoria 2 is not just an arbitrary modifier a province will get just because the player should have to deal with it. When the population revolts in Victoria 2, you know there is a problem, be it unemployment, lack of competitiveness on the world market, desire for political reforms, or a mix of nationalism and low living standards. While there is no magical button to remove this unhappiness, the skills of a player depends on his ability to guide the nation...

Yes! I completely agree. I think also what makes Vic2 so fun is that exacerbating certain problems to guide your nation in a certain direction is also a viable choice. Refusing to re-enact reforms so the Communists or Jacobins take over can be a viable strategy. Conversely, maintaining an Absolute Monarchy can be a sort of self-imposed challenge.

Thanks podcat! After more than a decade of playing PDS's games, I have to say that V2 is my favourite to date. The mix of diplomacy, conflict, economy and politics gives a feeling of interconnectedness to the world that I have not yet experienced in the EU titles. And the structure and interface of V2 makes it much more desirable to me than the micromanagement horror that is HOI3.

The idea of dynamic political parties sounds awesome. If we won't get it in a coming V2 expansion, I sure hope to see it in V3!
