Economy is a bit more tight in HOD, artisans are a little stronger as well so industrialization doesn't go as fast as it used to in the early game. Assuming French literacy is all right since the start, maybe you're killing your industry with tariffs forcing them to cut employment and inputs purchases, or maybe your admin. efficiency is low and people don't get promoted very fast due to that? NF on Craftsmen generally allows to snowball France as soon as you have 2-3 good factories in each state (look to synergies, that throughput bonus for example from having Coal in the state where you've built a Steel Mill is really strong).

worth a shot, it always works best for me to start off with state capitalism and switch over later when the economy is running ok.

I think this should avoid the dominion spam:

To release a dominion:
-Nationalism & Imperialims (at least) or some administrative technology
-Prestige hit
-For dominions with cores (i.e Canada, Australia, etc), owning 70% of cores

Future behaviour:
-If the master gets aditional cores of a previously released dominion->decision event so the master gives him the new adquired provinces with risk of rebelion if he refuses
-If another country gets aditional cores of a previously released dominion->crisis flashpoint
-If a dominion have cores in another dominion under the same master-> decision event so the master decides who gets the provinces (to avoid having at the same time Kingdom of Mozambique and Workers Best Republic of Mozambique)
-If a dominion have cores in another dominion under a different master-> crisis flashpoint

UK releasing some dominions is fine, it makes a bit weaker but that's good since they were a bit too strong previously. The problem is that it affects all colonies, which means the AI is not able to build ships according to its colonial ambitions and it does not know when to withdraw in a colonial race, tying up too much points in one place.
One hundred ironclads will be enough to support a big empire, add a few Commerce Raiders and then cruisers and you can own half the world. My main question is "how can the AI run out of Colonial Points so easily ?"

Not sure if the AI takes synergy into account at all or not. But if the AI does consider it, it's so small a factor compared to other factors as to be negligible. The AI mainly looks at where there are craftsmen when deciding where to build, and at the current price of input/output goods when deciding what types of factory to build.

Capis are aware that bonuses are there, but aren't married to them, and won't follow if that'd be against their interests (for example a factory of that kind just went bankrupt elsewhere).

I just started a Russian game, and got mil access through OE to take Sinai and Middle Egypt. The AI Egypt gave in to my terms before I reached the necessary score but when it was obvious I was going to take the whole place! Very impressed...

I was trying to convert to a state on philipines, and finally 40 years later and a lot of bureaucrats (they are killing my economy!) I cant to make them a state because I need 1200 points free! (I have 350) DOH! fail spain!

My imoressions from Prussia game so far:
AI`s are easier to convince to surrender after you de-facto won the war, and wars tend to be shorter and more decicive due to warscore from battles and occupation. Very good.

AI`s conques tagets are quite hillarious, just look at this Europe,I`m Germany, Russian Moroco and French italy:



Also, the event that gives cores is hillarious. Currently, i have 4 "foreign" state, Bogemia, Moravia, Zeland, and Jyland, and i have at least one province with core in each one, due to coring event. :huh:

Also, Please let GPs create(use NF) crisis flashpoints for other countries, at the very least for your spherelings. pretty please?

I have the exact same French Italy in my current (first and only) HoD game.

Overall I really enjoy it but I just have a few issues.

1. You can't create CBs against a country you're at war with anymore. You can still add war goals but it requires you take a full infamy hit.

2. I like how the U.K. releases Canada and Austrailia now but I hate how they still colonize the interior of the continent. It doesn't make sense to see Canada or Australia control all the coastal regions while the U.K. controls the very middle of Canada and the Australian outback.

3. Rebels seem a bit crazy. I got to about 1900 as Panjab and was ready to take on the U.K. to start to form India. They didn't have any brigades left but for some odd reason they had a crap ton of rebels that were aggressive towards me (though not towards other rebels of different ideologies). I probably counted about 50 rebel brigades in the United Provinces region alone with much more further south. Basically India just turned into a petri dish for British communist and anarcho lib rebels. Since the U.K. has no desire to fight them or no troops on the continent they just keep growing everytime there is a rebellion.

I really wish they would make it so that rebels can't pop up in a region that has been occupied by another country but I doubt this will happen. There is nothing more annoying than finally wiping out another nations army only to discover that I now have to deal with their horrendous rebel problem.

one quick question though, what is that little button over there on the right side that either shows a map or two lines (shortcut b)? I clicked it and nothing seems to happen.

I'm up to 1850+ as Portugal in my first game, and my Capitalists haven't built a single factory - and what's more, I've had to build all but 2 of the railways I've had so far, (and I subsidised both). I have Interventionist government, so can't build directly, but I have zero taxes on the Rich and I'm not imposing tarrifs - do I really have to change to a Reactionary party that has State Capitalism to kick-start things?
