Not much new info during the Q&A except for confirmation of the Marauder and Warhammer (someone finally got it out of Mitch after all the months of silence)
Finally!
Now I can shift my complaining to the absence of the Wasp, Stinger, Crusader, Rifleman, Archer, and Longbow.
Thanks, HBS!
Seriously, though, any plans to add the Wasp, Stinger, Crusader, Rifleman, Archer, and Longbow?
I only watched the vid once, feel free to take a peak yourself, but they said "the unseen".I can't believe I forgot the Phoenix Hawk.
So are you saying that the Unseen - some or all of them - are definitely coming (God willing and the river don't rise)?
I dont know about all, but we'll see.That sounds like solid confirmation that all of the Unseen are definitely, 100% positively right around the corner. I'll adjust my expectations accordingly.
"how little PGI has done"
Really, MW5 having its core gameplay mechanics fleshed out in MWO and modified means that PGI probably has put a decent chunk of effort into other parts of the game that a ~5 minute combat demo isn't going to show you. The merc sim side of the game hasn't been showcased. We just have a fairly limited scope to judge the game's progress from this end, and a merc sim trailer isn't the big trailer you want to put out for mass market appeal--big stompy robots in co-op blowing stuff up is.
To me, if they really didn't care PGI would have released Mechwarrior 5 already the fact that they are willing to prolong the development to get it right means they are trying to release a good product... look at EA if you want to see what happens when studios are forced to release a product by a deadline Quality be damned you get Mass effect Andromeda and Dragon Age 2.I didn't say MWO's combat is fine as is, but at it's core the gameplay mechanics are rather fleshed out. ie, they already have functional mech combat and knowledge of how to make that work.
MWO's balance is fairly solid right now, but that's comparing apples to oranges. MWO has to try to balance PvP, which is much harder. MW5 can allow things to be OP, since bots don't care if they are getting trashed repeatedly. The setting is also easier to balance out, since the tech level is lower and there are fewer options available to begin with (see MWO and civil war era tech balance, for reference).
This is the first time we've seen co-op running and functional. This is the first time we've seen a tidbit of the main story arc.
Like I said, it is also about mass market appeal. Even though it's a trailer at MechCon, that trailer is going to be spread around to non-mech fans in various places soon*. Most of us mech fans are already going to buy MW5 anyway. We're already hooked enough to be discussing it here. lol Imagine, if you will, that you hadn't played a Mechwarrior game since MW4 and didn't really get into MWO and PvP. This trailer would probably have you hyped.
I get it, it isn't the most exciting trailer ever that gets me super hyped, but I also don't think it's fair to say PGI is just dropping the ball.
I dont know about all, but we'll see.
I know everyone will WANT all of them, me too.
I especially would like;
