Ha. I am *so bad* at the game. I just lack the patience to think through the various options. If I could fight my battles with spreadsheets, I'd probably win more often.

Hey Kiva, you'll sure be glad to hear I have just the solution for you! Back in the 80s a guy named Weisman invented a tabletop game with lots of tables and record sheets and stuff which, at it's core, seems very similar to this. :D :D :D

In so many ways... in so many BattleTech ways such a friendly and personal a match as you describe above, sets the proper tone for what we know BATTLETECH Multiplayer will be at Launch.

Good luck in your preparation, and good gaming come this weekend. By way of good sportsmanship, I offer the following insight ~ I was fortunate enought to meet Chris at GenCon this past year, to shake his hand, look him in the eye and I have read every post of his I could find. He strikes me as the manner of gamer who will move to contact but will then afford you every opportunity to make the first mistake. He'll then look to take painful advantage of your every overreach, every misstep, every gap in your defense. Tactical Patience is how I can best describe it.

Most of all Good Sir, have some Big Stompy FUN...after all, that is the heart of both BattleTech and BATTLETECH. : )

Thanks for the kind words Prussian. However, when introducing new people to the game (tabletop or otherwise) my goal is no longer to win at all costs. That's only for tournament play. That said, I've since been doing some research on Carlos and listened to his strategy explanations and they're super solid. In my mind I was thinking Carlos was one of the streamers who was just now learning the game. I didn't know he was in the QA department and has likely played more of this video game than I have. :)

@HBS_Kiva, if I get this right it looks like the HBS Internal PvP Tournament is kinda like NASCAR in that it is points-driven with everyone taking their best shot in a match, during each round of the tourney.

In other words, we might end up with a Points-Tie and Co-Champions... unless I am mistaken (which as my daughters lament, I all too often am!) : )

Man - Iit would be awesome to see replays of this matches (or maybe future matches) at some point. I'd love to see how you leveraged intentional terrain destruction (I never even though of that - of course I've never played the game either :))

An example of such high-level Multiplayer gameplay would be amazing... and while a friendly, private match just may be held this weekend, I still hold out hope that @cKnoor might be able to bring us some PvP action during this coming Thursday's Paradox stream. : )

Yup I had a stock lance leftover from fighting Andrew so I suggested we do a replay of that setup and gave him a post detailing out my lance, but he declined to read it. He threw together a lance real quick and we slugged it out. He brought a Stalker with tons of SRMs and mediums, a Centurion with an AC/20, and 2 Firestarters. One had all MGs one had All flamers. I'll try to do a full writeup when I have time. It was a good fight and he's a strong player.

Oh, I also fought Tom in the tournament. We traded LRM volleys from our heavier supports while our mediums slugged it out in the middle. Eventually I won the middle engagement and closed on his Stalker. Then my Shadowhawk punched his head off. O.O

Still undefeated for another day. :)

Did you guys expect any other outcome? I didn't :p

As I mentioned, he's a true expert of the game and the whole background of BattleTech. I'm a casual player (how I would define myself as a player in my spare time) that has been working on QA in the game for the past couple of months. My experience has also mostly been in the game's campaign (the first half of it, mainly), not in Multiplayer, which has a lot of limitations in the Mechs and MechWarriors you can bring in to the Skirmish, for balancing purposes (limitations compared to the freedom of the Campaign). It is something I need to get used to and optimize as much as I can.

Also, the lance I put together was something I did quickly in about 10-15 minutes, I randomly picked a few Mechs, customized them a little bit in order to prepare for a "Desert" biome, but there is a lot of changes I could make to keep optimizing my game (as well as my budget, since I was over 1M under the limit!)

As I mentioned, he's a true expert of the game and the whole background of BattleTech. I'm a casual player (how I would define myself as a player in my spare time) that has been working on QA in the game for the past couple of months. So, did you loose two pilots to injury or just surrender after the firestarters were knocked out? Two of your mechs show intact head, CT, and Legs.

Never mind. I just saw the KIA notification.
Lots of salvage for Eck then...

You replied to yourself already :p No surrender from my side, never! I can tell you that my Firestarters were veeeeeeery agressive. I built them with additional leg armor in order to focus on DFA'ing. All the damage to the Jagermech was caused by a Firestarter with 2 Flamers and 4 MGs. I was so close to finishing it off! I mainly wanted to distract his sniper with this Firestarter, and it did work, for a while... One of my biggest mistakes in the game was that I accidentally right clicked on "Done" when it was the turn of my Stalker, so It ended my turn. I could've finished off his Kintaro way earlier than I did. It could've been a game changer...

@AldathPDX, you really tore up the Rear Torso Armor of the Jager and T-bolt. : )

And rather than chase the squirrel of Chris's Firestarter, it looks like you left it alone in a bid to avoid all its Evasion Chevrons while instead landing shots first on the Kintaro and its Stability Damaging and Crit Seeking SRMs.

I really like that you paired Sumo with your Stalker, that 8 Guts gave you Bulwark and a +2 Health for Chris to have to overcome, plus Multi-shot and a Stalker's worth of SRMs and Medium Lasers is a very flexible tool.

Of course the Centurion with an AC/20 and Apex's Breaching Shot is a powerful combination, especially with Apex bringing a 6-Guts to the fight with its added point of Health, -1 Refire Penalty and +15 Overheat Threshold. Nicely done. :bow:

Buckshot is a well-rounded MechWarrior for a Firestarter, a solid fighter who will land shots.

Arclight is a great choice and as it turns out, secured the Initiative Fight for you... if, when and where you might have...




...ah.

The AI is not "yet" known for it's mastery of BATTLETECH's Turn Order / Initiative side of the game. And given your intense experience with the AI, might there have been layers to BATTLETECH Turn Order / Initiative that in PvP against Chris, you had not quite expected?

Might this have been the decisive point on which the battle turned?
