Having trouble fixing matrilineal marriage in Notepad++

I've edited saves before using Notepad, but the save-files are getting too big for that now, so I'm using Notepad++.

However, I'm having problems getting it to work. When I load the save-game, the pre-game screen (where you pick who you play as) isn't loading properly.

Anyone able to help?

Here's the situation: I need to marry two women to two men matrilineally.

I have succeeded with the marriage part, and have loaded the game-save successfully. So it's the matrilineal part I'm getting unstuck with.

Here's a screenshot of the relevant part of the save-file. The husband's character ID is 702469 and his wife is 708363. I've added lines 4020209-4020212.

Can you see what's going wrong?

Anyone? If I can't get this fixed, then I think I'm done with this game.

its been years but its a bit tedious IIRC, there a liege field (? ) that makes a spouse dominant. its several fields you have to edit. if ist not right the game will "fix" it. I think you can also mess it up in that one character can be mat and the other not.

if they arent lords then i would just move them both to court and just do it in game. or switch to that noble and move them and then marry. Its always better to do things in game when possible rather than editing the files.

I don't think it's possbile to do it in-game, since the husbands are rulers. I just tried the "move character to another court" on them and it didn't work.

I have successfully changed a marriage to matrilineal before in Notepad, using the instructions in the wiki, but the file-size is likely too big to use that program now.

Is the successfull changing a marriage to a matri-marriage before or after 2.5 ?

if they are rulers you would pause, switch to that ruler, use move on the target spouse and then marry, and then switch back, if that doesnt work then they may be a religion/republic that doesnt allow it. Even if you game edit in that situation it might cause bugginess down the road.

one issue to look out for is that if the male ruler and the children are of a different dynasty, the ruler will often treat them worse than a courtier. And they are open game for the family since they wont get kinslayer.

Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds like it might be a workable solution.
