Having a PU with a republic

I think i screwed up!
in my first WC attempt i managed to get a PU with Great Britain. During that war they had a lot of Rebels rising due to their country desaster in 17th Century.
managed to PU them and due to my huge vassel swarm all rebels were killed and they stayed a republic.

now when they have a new election they break the PU.

like a real champion i save scummed i now have 8 days until the election. any ideas how to keep it? or not possible?

You can’t keep a Republic in a personal union. I didn’t even think it was possible at all. Sounds like a weird bug.

They can’t do royal marriages, being a Republic and all.

maybe if the current dude won the election the PU might stay? But it sounds like a huge glitch.

when i declared war they still were a monarchy. then during the war the disaster spawned.
okay.. then i think my WC became way harded now. ****

Cash in on any useful subject interactions you have while you still can, like "siphon income" or enforce your religion and/or culture to mess with them long-term.

do you think it makes sense to abdicate and save scum for hours and try to inherit the throne of england?
what are the chances on that if the PU only lasted for couple of years

If you have a save from during their disaster, you can let their Pretender Rebels win their war (assuming Britain went Republic) before you enforce your own demands.

since its iron man made i dont have that. or is there a folder anywhere in which older ironman saves are stored?
yes you are right. they went republic and they had some von habsburg lead armies in london, paris and other english territories.
and guess which retard has crushed those rebels? yes me... aaaaaaaaahhhhhh

Ah, yeah. Then it's more or less a loss, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, PU's can't be kept over Republics, as has been said, so it is a lost cause for now. I'm not sure I'd throw the whole save unless Britain is huge and you sunk a lot of time into winning that war though, depending on how well you're doing elsewhere. Perservere, and if you fail, you know why, where and when.

britain is huge. they have france in normandy, ile of france, gascogny and a lot of colonial nations.
its already 1640 and it would be 3 to 5 huge wars to fully annex them. and i have not all of india or levante yet, just snaked into india and china and ready to blob.
africa and russia still missing as well.
so i guess its over but yeah, i will just rerun it again in summer or so... world conquest is so exhausting. i will go for a funnier achievement now

Can you not just let the PU break and enforce it again in a peace deal?

Enforcing PU on republics like Milan and Naples changes government type to monarchy so maybe enforcing on any republic does it if you have the CB restoration of union. But I'm not sure you get the CB when GB is already a republic.

Keep the save for some time, someone else may have different sollution to try. Maybe there is a way to force spawn pretenders or something like that

since i only have 8 days left there is not too much i can do i guess
but yeah, i will keep the save. i will also give your solution a shot with a truce break. if it works i reload and wait for the truce to be over until i force it again.
british navy will be hard again though. that war was so difficult
