So, I came back to CK2 after almost 1 year without playing it.

The game feels harder than it used to be. I see that they actually nerfed the positive opinion modifiers and buffed the negative ones. I'm not complaining, this game was ridiculously easy one year ago. Now you really have to be careful about tyranny.

Also, the AI seems smarter. I'm playing the king of Italy under the HRE (1066 start), and I'm almost as powerful as the Kaiser (30k army for the Kaiser and 25k for me). I think the Kaiser feels threatened so he's always allying himself with the ERE to create some kind of counterweight against me (I'd probably lose against both the HRE and the ERE).

I was wondering, if I also form an alliance with the ERE and I declare war for independence on my liege, which side will the ERE join?

I see they added new traits, like stubborn and erudite. Do the new traits matter for the tactics chosen during battles? I assume stubborn characters will occasionally pick bad tactics?

My last ruler got the depressed trait. So I figured I would make some "cleanup" in the realm and then commit suicide. Wrong. I see there is now an "opinion of predecessor" modifier. Now I have like -30 to -60 opinion with all my vassals . Fortunately, my current genius ruler has 27 diplomacy and very good traits, so he should survive.

So, does anyone know how long it take for this new modifier to disappear?

Finally, is the Conclave DLC worth it? It's the only DLC I don't have.

I'd check ckiiwiki for traits that influence tactics. For the most part, it's still that Craven is the main trait to avoid in commanders (along with <8 Martial being worse than no commander in terms of tactics).

Not sure how it will work when auto CTA is removed but currently if the ERE is allied to you and your liege they will side with the defender in the event of a war.

Horse Lords- As a horde on the 2.4.5 patch, you were basically invincible as long as you weren't one of the smaller groups such as the Bolghars. Likewise, if you happened to be unlucky enough to be in their stomping grounds you were going to be in for quite the fight. In 2.5.2 they nerfed them into oblivion if you happen to pair it with Conclave, since the Clan and Council mechanics don't exactly jive well (if I remember correctly, the Clans will attempt to block you handing out land to them). Their cbs were also neutered as well and are now bound by population rather than being mostly unrestricted. If not playing as a horde however, tributaries (character is forced into being your ally and pays a percentage of his income to you) and the Silk Road (lets inland realms construct trade posts or raid along the route to collect extra income) still affect basically all characters.

Conclave - This is mostly intended as a difficulty hike for experienced players, though quite ironically in some aspects the new mechanics can actually make things easier. In essence, if your Council is empowered they will have a say on the laws of your realm and won't join any factions as long as you keep them happy. Give them too much power and you'll be struggling to even perform the simplest of tasks such as handing out land. Give them only a taste or none at all and you can run roughshod over them if you know what you're doing up until say emperor-rank. There's also sort of a meta game involving the use of favors as well, which adds just a touch of court intrigue. In general however, your perception of Conclave will depend primarily on the type of player you are. If you lean more towards map-painter, Conclave is pretty much your worst nightmare (especially with a fully empowered council) but if you lean more towards roleplayer or masochist you'll most likely enjoy it. Additionally, most of the negative reviews stem from the controversial patch features such as shattered retreat rather than actual DLC content.

Finally, my liege let me go when I triggered the independence faction. Not a single death.

Thank you for the information. Although I'm more a role-player than a map painter, I think I will wait for the next sale before purchasing my missing DLCs.
