Have you ever been able to form a coalition against a A.I faction?

In my games I never saw a AI faction close to me going overboard with AE so that I could form a coalition against it.
It happened once or twice that a faction quite distant from me would do that. But being distant my degree of AE towards it was not enough to be part of the coalition.

I know it makes sense that the AI wouldn't do something stupid like that, but sometime would be nice to be on the other side of the coalition

I used to see AI France face coalitions. That was a long time ago.

It has happend a couple of times, but I'm pretty sure I had over 1k hours in the game before getting the achievement.

Edit: Nations with a long living ruler with a combination of Militarist personality and Naive enthusiast trait is your best bet to find a coalition to join. They do however seem pretty rare.

In 1.23 I was doing an ayuthaya play through and dai viet annexed all of lang xang except two provinces which gave me the 50 aggressive expansion I needed. we were working together up until that point and were friendly ( though not allied ) and I had used them to tackle lang xang and it's numerous allies but I couldn't resist forming the coalition. All of Southeast Asia joined and we released just about every nation we could. Also in1.22 france would get coalitioned by the AI a few times though I stopped seeing that after 1.23.

I see it on rare occasions. Typically it's France or someone who gets greedy with HRE territory.

Happens all the time in Japan.

Also seen it once from Sweden (contested a PU, took Russia in the peacedeal, already had AE, 17 nations) and around Horde nations sometimes.

Used to happen a lot more on earlier patches. And especially often before the leader trait got fixed.

Yea that was the leader trait bug. The AI started treating AE like a highscore. Best I saw was France getting -400 from Bavaria.

You have to be paying close attention. The AI doesn't tend to go way over so you only get a short window most of the time. It would be cool if there were a notification telling you there was a coalition available to join.

I've joined only two coalitions. One against Austria, the other against Brandenburg. Both were militaristic and weren't emperor. I was in the HRE both times. Maybe three or four, actually - Bohemia and Lübeck might have pulled it off one day too, can't remember.

Outside of that, the AI seems to always stop just shy of a coalition forming - or then a puny one.

Yes, against Ottomans in 1.24, believe it or not.

And in 1.7 you could join coalition without any AE conditions. Easy to get the achievement that time ^^

IMO, the best nations to look for when a coalition happens are those involved on the Japanese mainland, Ayyuthaya, Bohemia and Poland. On Very hard, while unlikely, I've seen Bohemia manage to get a coalition, it requires them to full annex a nation like Bavaria.

In a Mysore campaign a while back I joined a coalition against Bahmanis who was blobbing out of control together with 4 other minors. By calling in my ally Jaunpur we managed to defeat him and force him to release a couple of nations after a really long and hard war, which put a stop to his expansion and gave me my own avenues to expand north. Too bad the coalition was only 5 members so I didn’t get the achievement, and I botched the next war against Bahmanis and that was basically the end of the campaign.

Yeah, i see coalitions often in central Europe (Poland, Bohemia etc.) and in Southeast Asia (Lan Xang, Ayutthaya etc.).
I can't join most of the time, though, because I'm too far to reach -50 AE.

Same here, actually, only that I haven't been able to join one even once. I activated notifications for any nations joining coalitions, and in my current game, I saw three coalitions forming before 1550 - against (Local-Noble-)Poland, Gelre, and Ethiopia.

Back in the olden day, especailly within the HRE, then yes quite a lot. Now not so much.
