Have you been avoiding HRE/Catholic nations?

Since Emperor DLC, I feel slightly uncomfortable when playing in Europe. I know most of the early fiasco has been kindly fixed, but anyway... I am still unfamiliar with the changes and unwilling to explore them. That's why I am only playing Muslim nations now, perhaps something East Asia as well. Have you found yourself doing the same thing? How do you feel with the HRE/Catholic changes?

The changes to Catholicism are fine, a tad underwhelming perhaps but nothing that would make me actively avoid Catholic nations. The HRE, on the other hand... It's not like when Emperor first came out, when even just neighbouring the HRE was painful, but I still won't touch the election with a ten foot pole. These days, more often than not I just look for the first opportunity to dismantle it.

Reformation is too strong, so except playing austria, i always have to choose protestant.

For roleplaying catholic is the most fun it has ever been. Especially cause trent can randomly screw your whole diplomacy

I'm the opposite. I'm finding it hard to play anywhere that's not Europe.

I used to rarely play Europe, but with Emperor I'm finding it more interesting. The automated features of Emperor help make Europe more manageable.

With the macro builder "fixed" to no longer improve relations with the German princes that have AE accumulated but are unwilling to join a coalition at that that moment(when it actually matters), Western Europe is unplayable for me.

I like playing Protestants, thankfully in almost every game I’ve played Muscovy and ottomans absolutely stomp the Catholic league to shreds. So I would agree, Protestants especially the league are OP. People might have different play through a but.

The only country in Europe (escluding Muscovy which I consider ROTW) I find fun is Austria. But not as the usual path towards the HRE vassal swarm, but instead forming Germany by using your position as emperor to grow in strength and sabotage the HRE from within. I flip protestant early, and then blitz-CB the emperor once the leagues fire to stomp them in a minimalist league war (well, except for me). At that point I should rather quickly become emperor again, then once I am the last elector remaining I throw the emperorship to a random OPM and wardecc them to dissolve the empire.

Other than that though I find the new European content rather disappointing. No reason to play the German minors because Austria is OP, Castile got screwed over by the changes to the BI, Aragon got nerfed, the French vassal swarm does not work properly, Swiss earlygame is broken (and they start horribly boxed in), the new mission trees are bad.
