I'm new to Paradox games, but I've recently become rather addicted after picking up EU4 over Christmas. I've been eyeing HOI3 ever since, and I finally picked up the HOI3 Collection on Amazon for a tenner this week. But I've now realised, having installed it, that it doesn't include Their Finest Hour. Is there any way I can still pick that up? The game still tells me that I can pre-order it, so you could say that that is a little out of date. Would buying just the DLC on Steam or suchlike add it to the game, or would I then be left with HOI3 Collection, a separate Their Finest Hour floating in the ether, and a hole in my wallet?
It's not really a deal-breaker, I shall still play the game, I just don't want to limit myself should I grow to love it and I'd prefer to experience the whole thing.

Just go ahead and buy TFH. You won't have a problem using it.

Be careful with combining non-Steam and Steam content. I have heard bad things about how this works out - or rather doesn't.
But wait for the guys who actually know sth about this, I am just trying to protect you from a 10-20 $ mistake.

However, I recommend you try to get a TFH version, it greatly enhances gameplay. Really does.
And afaik most people almost exclusively play TFH, so in case you do want to play mp, there might be better chances to find a group, too.

Their Finest Hour is available from Amazon download, same price as on Steam at the moment.

I, too, have heard bad things about Steam not playing well with other installs. (For the record, I got my HOI3 collection and TFH from Amazon as well.) Also some of the DLC does not work with TFH anyway -- I'd suggest registering your game (via the "My Games" button on the header of the forum pages) so you can get access to the support forums for more detailed answers to compatibility questions.

Also, we don't have Amazon Downloads here in the UK. Well we do, but it only has about 4 things on it.

If the Amazon version you bought was for Steam then you need to buy the Steam version of the expansion. If it is from Amazon only then you could probably buy TFH from a few different places such as Gamersgate or Amazon but NOT Steam. The Steam version only works with Steam.

GamersGate is much more user friendly. I have a boxed copy of HOI (pure vanilla) and it integrated seamlessly with everything I got from GG.

I just had to do a reload last week and it is as simple as you describe. The only thing you might run into is that your Visual C++ is too new, but this should only be a problem for the older versions in the collection (which you already have loaded). TFH should do just fine and it is already patched to 4.02.

The Steam version only works with Steam.

Steam+Non-Steam works.
Non-Steam+Steam not.

They all work with each other IF, repeat IF you change a couple of registry entries for the game. I've used a CD for HOI vanilla, impulse for SF, gamersgate for FTM and steam for TFH.

Go to the steam store. Search for hearts of iron and you will find TFH for sale there.
