A question to all the unfortunate souls who bought it back in the day. Is it OK now? I stopped playing EU a month before Leviathan release to get hungry for the game and, well, got scared away for a year. Now I'd like to make a cautious return.

I own all DLCs except for Leviathan and Origins. Should I get them both or just Origins? The latter has mixed reviews on Steam which is kinda ok for todayish Paradox' quality and Levi is still dangling around somewhere below Mariana trench.

It was fixed in 1.32. It is "ok" now. I'd advise playing 1.32 though because the game is really slow right now in the later years. I'd get them both if you own everything else. 1.32 is very excellent.

But like the above poster said its subjective. You have some people that say all of EU4 is broken.

"Leviathan" as in the DLC was never broken. The accompanying patch (which included some of the DLC mechanics) was, and the issues have been fixed. Whether you like the changes or not is of course subjective, but at least they work now. Leviathan's votes will never go up though, so waiting for them to become mixed or positive is a fool's errand.

Leviathan itself was never broken, what was broken was 1.31 which released with Leviathan. If you want monuments and enjoy playing in SE Asia Leviathan is worth it, but concentrate and pillage dev both got nerfed to uselessness in 1.32 so those features are a non-factor now.

I also want add on top of everything mentioned already that expand infrastructure is pretty useful now in 1.33, if you're playing tall. Prior to that it was just another button you would never use.

Which is honestly a good thing. It's not outright removal, which would be best, but it's something. I still can't fathom how Pillage and Concentrate, as initially implemented, got past testing. I really can't.

Not that it should. Every player should keep the review negative cause the release deserves it.

Personally, I decided that I wouldn't buy it out of principle. It's fine if other people want to buy it for a more complete experience, but I'm voting with my dollar; I don't want to reward Paradox when they rush untested releases. We know they can do better.

Monuments add some flavor no matter where you play as well as act as a decent money sink. As for SEA, it's an interesting region to play in, mostly due to its unique geography and the presence of Ming. It's easily worth playing at least 2-3 playthroughs there's just for a change of pace.

Overall, the DLC won't drastically change the way the game is played, but I'd give it a shot since the major issues have all been fixed. If you are still skeptical, it's currently 30% off on Steam, at least in Canada, and it will likely be at 50% during the Summer sale so you can always grab it then.
