I have tried to work around the carrier air bug as follows: I edit my naval bombers to have the attack and defense stats of naval bomber + MR fighter. I figured since carrier air ops are usually only directed at one target, it would work. What I'd like to know is :

1) Does the combat system work more or less like it says in the manual? ie. 'attack rating' gives you that number of 'dice' to score hits with and 'defence rating' gives you that number of 'dice' to cancel out hits?

2) How hard is it to create a new aircraft type, so I can use my naval bombers as originally defined?

I have zero skill at programming this game, I only know how to edit. Does anyone think this idea is valid, and could it be worked into the naval tech tree? You would need the appropriate techs in aircraft to make your 'carrier wings' better.

It can be done, and has been discussed extensively, although I think that lower rates for both ship attack and air combat are warranted since you have less planes in the unit as compared to a "pure" unit. Also, naval fighter often had lesser capabilities than land based ones.

The problem is that ANY plane will fit on a carrier.

I would recomend using the Torp-bombers instead of the naval bombers, BTW.
