Hello everyone,

I have recently started a new stellaris game with a good upstart, just as i was going to exploit and colonize all the star systems i was able to secure by taking a crucial choke point, (only way to cross the galaxy from side to side) a blue wraith 650Thz appeared out of the nearest pulsar to my home system ( 2 jumps away) destroying half of my advanced outposts, i had no means to stop it so i backed off to strengthen my fleet and tech a bit when this "new" ray technology appeared:

EmptyVoidRay.png

it's a rare tech i have never encountered before, it does a whooping +400% damage to shields and even has large mounting with a damage of 36-95 0.o

It doesn't appear at the wiki so that's why i came here to post it, has anyone encountered it before?

best regards, elalex.

I was wrong. It popped immediately after researching the null-space portal and I assumed they were linked. Here's the tech entry from 00_phys_weapon_tech.txt. It's not, but the tech is really rare.

# Null void beam
null_void_beam = {
area = physics
cost = @tier1cost2
tier = 2
is_rare = yes
category = { particles }
ai_update_type = military
weight = 3
}

It's the "Null Void Beam". I think you get the chance to roll it after researching the dimensional portal project, but the null void dimension itself guarantees it as a research option.

It's the 2nd best anti-shield weapon in the game, right behind the large-slot-only kinetic artillery. Its best trait is actually its massive range, which can make even small-slots viable for artillery ships. It's best paired with plasma because they're both energy types and you can cover all damage types with all weapon slots.

null void beam used to have the same icon as the siphon.

In 2000+ hours of gameplay, I never saw it before Megacorp was released, and I don't ever remember seeing it on the wiki.

And every time I've seen it, it's been purple. Did it have a different name or something before?

It could be that it was added with MegaCorp, not sure, but I'm 100% positive it had the green icon. The patch notes even say they changed it.
