In any case I demand a proof.

Would you believe me if I said that I have removed all relevant savegames?

Unfortunately, my last two games (that's my "cutoff" for removing savegames, generally) were as the Soviet Union and Germany, I'm fortunately competent enough to win as either.. but unfortunately, that leaves me without proof now.. but I'll remember to make screenshots when I DO see it happening :)

I've never seen the Germans defeat the Soviets... They are allways halted somewhere near Moscow, northern Estonia and Central Ukraine... Then the Soviets push back and get to Poland '44-'45-ish...

By loading saved games and looking what they were doing I noticed that they go very early in a panic mode and overload their TC with strategical deployments .
The thing is that they are sending their armies to places that will fall before the armies get there .
So they are basically in a permanent state of unpreparedness from which they can't recover .

I've seen worse behavior than that. I've seen divisions SRing to the western front while other divisions SR from the west front to Vladivostok. Apparently the AI doesn't have enough divisions to garrison everything, so it just starts reacting to the crisis of the moment and ends up essentially moving troops at random.

It's an odd contrast to the German AI, which seems to blissfully ignore US landings in France, rather than SR troops to the Rhine.

The only thing that looks non realistic are the minors .
Hungary , Romania , Slovakia , Bulgary , Finland and liberated Ukraine provide so many units that the concentrated Wehrmacht is unstoppable .

Of course, a liberated Ukraine is not historical. Though it is realistic; the Germans should have done it.

Do the German minors really send that many expeditionary forces to Germany?

In my romania game, I joined the the axis and piled my entire army (about 60 inf divsions) on the russian/romanian border. The germans invaded and what ensued was pathetic... my guys got twice as far as they did into russia. The northern section never got past Konigsberg! The center never got close to kiev. I had to keep weakening my assault to help them. Long story short, the soviets were in berlin by early 44. And there was nothing in france but german troops and the eiffel tower.

Honestly, why do i never see such thing happening? I'm wondering, what factors do you think could affect the difference in our experience?

In my recent game the SU DoWed Ger in June of 1942. They lost 200 divisions in 6 months and my Rep. Spanish army is now bigger than the Red Army. I'm holding a front line in France against Germany which should divert their forces but it didn't really stop the Germans to steamroll the soviets...

I think the title of this thread should be =

why on earth are the allies (US and UK) so lame they can't even stage D-day to divert German troops to the Western Front.

I send a save-file from doomsday 1.1 to Lothos where the US AI was freezed - it had a 50 plus fleet of Transports in the UK coastal waters - a big army waiting in UK - a big fleet in the UK coastal waters ... and nothing never happened after all ! Totally amazing stuff...

Lothos was so happy he got that save file - and from there on - I heard nothing...

Lothos, did you track the root cause of this phenomena ? Would be really nice to see the allies invade Atlantikwall. :)

I suspect PI to do a major overhaul on AI for 1.3 ... cause this fix wasn't in the 1.2 fix list.

I've seen the USSR take Germany and annex it by 1941. It happened and the USSR was from Bourdeaux to Siberia. I turned the fog off and saw nothing but a sea of red units. Kinda freaky. I was playing the US and gave them L/L shipments every time they asked.

were is the Red Army???

I think the starting red army in 36 38 and 39 is far below what it should be.
From around 35 to the begining of Barbarossa SU had more tanks then the rest of the world combined... about 20000(about 17000 were BT-5/7 and T-26 and the rest were T-28 some T-35 and about 500 more advanced tanks like t-34 and KV-1/2). As well as about 20000 aircraft althow almost all fighters were old J-15/16...
In 39 you start off with 3 light and 1 med tank div???
A SU tank div consisted of around 300 tanks... that means 66-67 tank div 10 of witch are medium.
Anyway Red army is alot closer to what it should be in 41...
Another problem is Nazi Economy in 35-42 their weapon production went up from 1/3-1/2 of SU output and from 42-44 it was rufly equal...
The reason for that huge difrence was that SU industry in 35-41 was already working full time on weapon production but Ger only went to total war around the time of Stalingrad.
:)

I'm not sure giving the Soviets that many obsolete tanks would help them much. They wouldn't be able to upgrade them (at full draft, upgrades take lots of IC and time), and an army that big would put them into the red on TC right from the start.

Take a look at the 41 scenario and you'll see what I mean.

lol, I just watched the Soviet Army crush Germany in 2 years - they DoWed Germany in 1940 (heh) and Germany surrendered in 1941. Soviets took all of Germany except 4 provinces - I captured Saarbrucken, Essen, and Cologne with 20 UK divisions; France got another one after we redrew Europe.

right now the only wars going on are Japan vs. Allies and Japan vs. Nationalist China... hopefully we will destroy Japan soon, there are about 20 allied air divisions on Hong Kong right now bombing the heck out of Okinawa and other Japanese islands (I already amphibious assaulted Taiwan with 3 divisions).

Italy never entered, Belgium didn't even have to join the Allies (Germany stopped after they killed the Netherlands because the Soviets entered), Pearl Harbor never happened because USA DoWed Japan in 1940......... it's still only 1942. :)

Almost all of them were obsolete, in poor mechanical condition, and either deployed as Brigades or not deployed at all.

They might best be simulated by attaching AC-brigades to several of the Infantry Divisions.

I have never bought that "obsolete" argument. In poor mechanical condition and deployed stupidly, certainly, but not obsolete.

Obsolete compared to what?

The Germans, and every other army also had a large number of light tanks like the BT series and the T-26. The number of T-34's and KV's almost matched the number of PzKpfw III's and IV's, if I remember correctly.

I think the game has it right with the late BT series being the equal of the early marks of the PzKpfw III in technical terms.
