Has anyone played this game on a regular basis since release back in Q1 2012?

It's hard to believe that this game has already been out for nearly a year. As you all know, the game was a huge success, and this has been one of the most active subforums since Valentine's Day. I'm curious, (and this is just more of a fun question, by the way), if anyone has consistently played the game since it came out. When I say consistently, I simply mean that you've never "walked away" from it; meaning, you've got into the habit of playing other games instead for maybe a couple of weeks. It's hard to define this precisely, (and I doubt anyone has actually kept track of the days that they've been playing), but I'm pretty sure you know what I mean!

I've been playing the game fairly consistently since it came out, actually. The longest stretch of time that I've gone without playing it, (and I have the pride of saying that I bought the game just hours after it came out! ), is maybe nearly a month.

What about you?

I've played it regularly since it was released. Its the only game I play. The game has rekindled my interest in the Medieval Period, leading to new books to read and films.

Sounds familiar. Every Paradox game I've played (admittedly not all that much... EU1 and 2, HoI2 and its expansions, and this) raised my interest in the corresponding era dramatically.

Completely agreed. I've learned far more about history from playing PI games and doing the relevant googling than I ever did in school taking the subject up until I was 16! These games should really be used in schools to encourage more of an active interest in historical periods.

To answer the OP, I've played 251 hours according to steam since I bought it in April, but that probably ignores around 50 which were missed on my incredibly dodgy university house internet connection! I probably spend more time reading this forum than I do in game however, which is slightly ridiculous XD

Well, that's school for you. Schools designed for mass education are terribly inefficient at teaching; they take a very long time to teach anything. Going to school is really one of the worst ways to learn. Even fancy private schools aren't very efficient. The only reason we have large schools is because more efficient systems are too expensive to use to educate the masses.

I don't launch the game via steam, so I can't give any time estimates. But I've played the game pretty consistently since I bought it. I didn't buy the game at launch though, pretty sure I picked it up in early Q2.

Kinda same with me.
Addicted to tweaking and modding it.

But it's funny... it was the first PI release that I was actively interested in, following dev diaries and stuff - just because of the character-driven aspect (my favourite historical period is the Roman Ages).
And I thought that, after release, it would subside, gently fade away, like it happens with most games...
...but it hasn't.
I haven't played it that much, mind, but it's still a game I go back to regularly. And the new patches keep the game fresh or even improve it!

747 hours played, although there were some bigger breaks in between when the game became stale.

The DLCs didnt really help with that. I am pretty indifferent about SoI and the ERE stuff.

It's just that I havent got any similar strategy/building game that I enjoy as much as CK2. I would like more building, like in Civ, but when I played Civ 5 this month, it was kinda meh compared to CK2.

Had to burn my first post to co-sign this. Amazing how much additional enjoyment the games have given me above and beyond playing them. As far as CK2 goes, I found it the biggest struggle of any of the Paradox games I own to get into initially, but very much enjoying it now and still playing it.

I haven't played it since Q1, but I have played it obsessively since patch 1.05e. I believe I picked up the game around the time that patch was released.

Thanks to Steam I know just how many hours I've played since last February (I will not mention but there are 4 digits). There are two things I really like about this game from a development perspective:

1) Effective patching and balancing. CKII is incredibly fun to play and has been since it's release. However, I look at games from some earlier patches and think to myself "How the fuck did I use to play without [feature X from recent patch]?" (not having de-jure claims for king level titles comes to mind). It's really impressive when an awesome game consistently gets patches that make the old build look unplayable.

2) Better tuned learning curve than other paradox titles. A high skill ceiling promotes longevity in a game and is especially crucial in what is (principally) a single player title. The fact that I played hundreds of hours between last February and June and yet, by August, I was playing the game in a substantially different way speaks volumes about the depth of the game. Most importantly, and this is what differs from other paradox titles, I didn't spend those first four months lost and confused. After a couple of hours I generally felt competent at the game and was already having fun.

Both of these elements of game design are incredibly difficult to achieve. You've got an EU IV customer PI.

I've played, counting all Paradox games, probably over two and a half thousand hours, and undoubtedly it has been a worthy investment of time in terms of enjoyment and learning. Back when I bought EU3: Complete in the box, I used the sticker that it came with and put it across the blank spot on the top of my keyboard. I couldn't be more proud!

Well put! Their games are very captivating and certainly do a lot to peak one's interest in historical periods and events.

I have learned much about Geography too! And when an event happens in game I am tempted to search outside for more information. This is one reason why I find the Wikipedia Integration in CK2 a wonderful feature and idea.

I've been playing for about half of that time. I actually first found out about the game from a friend of mine who had a pirated version. And the version that he had had been modded to have a really high chance of characters being gay. I thought that was kind of hilarious, so when it went on sale a few weeks before SoI came out, I bought it on a whim. Been playing it since.
