As I previously mentioned, my games all seem to slow suddenly at one point in 1944/45, and crash at a point near victory. I'm not sure if that's due to faulty event coding, or some result of too many units on map. Does anyone else have this experience?

Yes and no... I just got IC the other day, have yet to try it out, but it is run off the HOI2 engine, and that always happens to me around 1945 (in HOI2). I think it's just the shear number of units on the map, lot of number crunching for the database.

I have played a couple of games to the end in 52 or whenever it was, mostly because I wanted to see if anything fun happened, it didn't, probably because I messed up the world too much.

Not in Iron Cross. I have never played past 1942 with this version...things usually tend to become way too unbalanced for my taste by then. (However, I have played well into the 1950s on other HoI versions).
