Has anyone had an issue where trying to randomize ship names will result in blank names?

For some reason, whenever i try to randomize ship names for menacing corvettes or destroyers, the name will be blank.

I tried turning all mods off and starting a new game to test and its still happening.

As an example, here is the auto generated name "Harrier".

The moment i click randomize, i get a blank name instead.

Oddly enough, this ONLY happens for menacing ships, regular ship classes work fine.

Ive tried reinstalling the game entirely and turned all mods off...no luck. I just keep getting blank names for menacing ships.

Strangely, i was able to randomize ship names for menacing ships a few hours ago but it stopped working at some point and i cant figure out why....
 
So when you randomize ship names for menacing ships, it works fine?

So far ive tried deleting everything in mydocuments\paradox\stellaris, reinstalling and running the game with no mods on....and it just keeps randomizing menacing ships to blank names....

This is driving me crazy....
 
Yes, I've seen this.

You can also get blank system names if you force too many of the same star type into a galaxy.

I think for ships it happens when your ship design name conflicts with another empire's ship design name. Like if you pick the same species namelists and they generate a few types of ship from that list.

This doesnt seem to be the case because of its limited solely to menacing ships.

Looking in the ship_sizes file, i noticed that menacing ships have lines like this :

use_shipnames_from = corvette

Its SUPPOSED to make the game take ship names from the corvette section of the name_list file...but it does not appear to work properly.

I added this to the UNE name_list file :

And VOILA, i was able to randomize crisis corvette ship names.

The problematic part is why this isnt consistent, i was definately able to randomize menacing ship names a few hours ago, and then it just suddenly stopped working on its own.

Even stranger, the initial auto generated design WILL use a random corvette name....but clicking "randomize names" will cause it to change to a blank name....

So when you're conflicting with your own list, then you see the issue I noticed in other places.

I use extended naming lists, could you simply have run out of names?

(I currently use the one compiled by Cybrxkhan, it's quite big)

No, i tested this by starting a fresh game and used the console to hit crisis level 2 instantly and it was happening constantly. I tested this more than 10 times with fresh games in each instance.
