I just picked up this game, and am now on my 9th attempt at the GC (I was a former player of HoI).

As Germany, I've taken a number of games into 1942 before restarting for this, or that reason. Something has been bothering me though. First, playing as Germany, in 9 games, the Republicans have won the SCW every time.

I also noticed that the winter war event doesn't seem to be firing at all. I have not seen Finland and the USSR at war ever.

And this last game I played, the USSR garrisoned the border with Germany with 2 infantry in each province, then DoWed Japan and basically took out most of China. I'm really confused at this move, because it allowed me to get to Moscow in about a week. I got Leningrad, without a fight, in a matter of days.

Your difficulty and AI agressiveness settings?
Did you start any wars before history took its course in 1939?

My AI and difficulty settings are whatever is vanilla out of the box. I do this until I get a few good GC's under my belt and get used to the learning curve.

As for starting the war ahistorically, well not really.

Once I got the "Poles Fold" during the "Danzig or War" event. I always conquer Denmark before the event that automatically declares war on them, and I usually take out France in April of 40, not June.

Other than that, I don't usually vear too far off of the historical course of the war.

Well, it was neet to get the event, but then you realize that it is actually a pain in the butt. You have to manually declare war on Poland, it throws a wrench in the Molitov-Ribbentrop pact, and you just end up having a worse time of it.
