Has anyone actually had a pretender faction rise up or a succession war?

I've had it happen to me before and another empire had it occur when i was at war with them, its relativity easy to placate your subjects with influence and policies. So unless you are a slaver militarist purge kind of guy than you won't likely see any in your playthough.
I'm not sure about the succession war but it is possible that rebels of a certain faction rebel and occupy a planet. Basically as long as a factions doesn't get too full on influence than it will never happen. But if it does happen than the amount of rebels on a planet will spawn x amount of rebels on said planet. If it is successful in taking over the planet (killing garrison / armies) than the planet will belong to a new empire.

As it stands, political succession is a bit too much of a painless process -- you might lose some good perks, have to spend some influence, or have a new mandate to deal with, but then it's pretty much business as usual. I generally like their choice in Stellaris to progress further away from rulers and individuals being a game focus, moving towards broad government policy and administration of an interplanetary empire, but the game could use some real political leadership crises. It would be especially helpful for potential destabilization of overly powerful empires -- if a player doesn't keep some influence or resources banked at succession time, things could go bad.

It could also be a way to keep the AFE steamroller from going out of control -- if they could split and have internal disputes during succession, it would give you and standard AI a chance to respond (although those splits probably shouldn't happen during the War in Heaven, as it would be the unified war between two awakened empires dedicated to each others' destruction).

I only saw this faction in the code. It's not commented out, but I've never seen it or heard of it or read about it ouside the code.

See title.

Is it still just a fantasy event with tiny chance of happening?
Hopefully it'll happen more often with heirs and such given that we're going to have way more legitimate factions these days, so the ethos of the king is going to matter I bet.

If the AI can just tick the "supress faction box" it is very unlikly to see that happening often.

I hope the whole faction supressing systems gets a big overhaul in 1.5 or is scrapped alltogether.

1. We're not talking about standard factions, but a succession crisis that the game warns you about if your ruler dies without an heir. Since one is generally generated within a few days, the chances of it happening are really low, so we're all wondering if it is even a thing. It's not a standard faction, because you can't check "suppress faction" to replace a lost ruler.

2. It's pretty clear that factions are being totally overhauled, so we'll have to wait and see.

Sounds like something that is excellent for more depth in SP but truly imbalanced for MP If there is no chance for coup d'etat civil wars for oligarchies and democracies.

It sounds like government types and ethos are going to be more prone to ethos and system changes with 1.5 and the new factions / ethics systems, so this is quite possible.

LoL I literally never heard of that before or encountered it in over 600 hours of gameplay.

Why is it even there if you almost always get an heir asap ^^
sounds more like an hidden easteregg.

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm going to play around at trying to force this to happen. What's the fastest method? Console kill my ruler and kill the next one before an heir is named?
