Has anybody noticed a difference in their historically focused games?

When France is defeated, Germany doesn't seem to puppet Vichy France anymore like they're supposed to, and The Vichy French territories are incorrect, now including all of French Africa, Madagascar and French Indochina.

I've also noticed that when Poland is defeated by Germany in 1939, not all of Poland is annexed with a small state being left free as though the ai has forgotten to annex it.

I'm playing from 1936 as Britain with historical focuses turned on. the game never used to be like this, i dont like it. these historical inaccuracies on a historical playthrough bother me greatly. I'm really angry.

Could you possibly include a screen shot or two for the German-Polish one? I swear something similar has happened to me before, but i don't remember the correct state. I do agree with all of your points and i suspect the german one has to do with scripting that might have not been fully looked over.

Yeah that's the one. I remember that it wasn't my game I saw it in but rather a TommyKay achievement game as Romania where he got a core state of both Czechoslovakia and Poland because that state and one other were left alone by the germans for some reason. I honestly think it has something to do with the scripting of the molotov event. Not a definite though.

Edit: The other state was Stanislawow, so one the Russians should get which is even more confusing.

I've seen that bug throughout the years.

I'm not sure it's just related to peace conferences. I've also seen 1 province Poland show up in Zaolzie after the whole thing has been occupied due to some weird interactions between various focus trees. It respawns for some reason related to changing province ownership, and then has to be reoccupied.

Zaolzie is Czech in the beginning, but Vienna Award cedes it to Poland. Maybe that event doesn't/didn't check the status of Poland properly? I know that the game still wants you to honor the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact even when Germany or Soviet Union no longer exists.

I think you're on to something there. That sounds like the old version of the bug I've seen before. It's something weird with Zaolzie not being Polish at game start, and not being set up in certain events properly.

Then again, it could just be a coincidence and an unrelated bug. It is HOI4 after all. :p

While everyone is (rightly) focused on the Zaolzie bug, the answer for this part of your question is just new mechanism.

Vichy weren't really a German puppet irl, so they changed it when reworking the French focus tree. They will be justified by the States later in the war which brings them into the Axis side in historical settings, but a human Vichy can also opt to fight in the Allies side in some circumstances.

Barely any territory will now belong to Free France when France capitulates (I suppose they just or very recently did judging by the date of your screenshot). But the new FF tree will allow them to appeal to locals in the overseas territory and potentially flip them to the FF side, with or without bloodshed.

Two things I have seen more than once recently:

1) German DoW on Poland takes place late, sometimes as late as early 1940 (ironically this puts the fall of France and Barbarossa very close to historical dates).

2) Japan repeatedly getting their butt kicked in China (Kempetai taking a few too many Civs?).

@SchwarzKatze There is another long-standing conference bug which makes Poland do a white peace with Estonia after having them defeated.

Poland probably can't annex as there is no land border but for some reason won't even puppet Estonia. I'll try to look into the conference logics although it's quite complex, maybe you'll have a better luck :)

But historical almost all regions stayed with Vichy France, including Indochina and Madagascar. The Free French were not really accepted as real representatives for France for quite some time.

They require divisions in a certain position on the map and some PP. Then, when a bit of time passes, the area flips.

Indo China was (nominally) vichy well into '45 which is part of the reason why the famine happened.

Then we removed all those decisions because Vanilla HoI IV implemented similiar things with their Free France Focus Tree themselfs.
