Game don't have to be simulation if there are seasons modelled.

And Games can be Simulation. :)

I think the idea behind the "game, not simulation" statement is that the ambition never was to re-create the medieval world as realistic and historically correct as possible, but rather to create a fun game in that environment. Thus the lack of seasons(?), for example, isn't a gamebreaker, but rather an aspect that was deliberately left out.

Yes, but if you don't want a "historically correct" game, you don't make historic games... Perhaps Paradox may try fantasy games (they have conan licence after all)...

the one does not exclude the other, the world is not in black & white. so far paradox have done just fine with their balance of historic correctness and playability, which the activity of these forums are a testement to.
Paradox try to give the player a historicly correct starting point, and then hand the world to the player, which is how it should be. there would be no fun in playing byzantium if you KNOW you cant win, or playing any other nation for that matter. All countrys have had some twist of fate that put them where they are today, the point of these kind of games are the "what if" possibilities.
