Harshest anti-spam ever?

I registered on Monday to sign the petition for non-steam SoTS II. I even registered my copy of SoTS (after figuring out that it needed two additional sets of XX, being an impulse version), in the hope this would help.

It didn't.

What exactly is necessary to be allowed to post there? Buying SoTS II can't be it, because it would be ridiculous.

It has been six days now, and I wouldn't be astonished if it was necessary, because I don't think it would be much more ridiculous than the situation I find myself in now.

So, what exactly did I miss?

You don´t need to own SotS II to post in that forum. I don´t own II yet and when I look at the permissions for that forum (you can see them when you go to the forum and scroll all the way down) I can post:

* You may post replies
* You may post attachments
* You may edit your posts

Did you react to the activation mail you were sent?

Yes, I reacted to the activation mail. When I looked before posting I wasn't allowed to do anything. Before posting I tried it again and got the apparently standard "you may not post"-message that stated a lot of reasons why I couldn't post (game not registered, not yet waited 5 days after registration [on day 6 after registering] etc. pp.)

It apparently works now. Whatever got changed, needing to wait five days before being allowed to post won't exactly help in threads such as the petition, but I digress.
Damn, now this looks like much ado about nothing.^^

Sorry for the hassle, The wait is 5 days, but you may need to wait till the forum refreshes itself, which could technically make it look like 6 days.
Spam bots are a constant battle, that eat many hours of my day battling them in one form or another.
Believe me you would not want to see this place if some of these measures were not in place.
As an example, Even this thread has Bot posts in it that have been removed.

I just deleted 3 posts of porn spam from this thread. So, yeah, if anything we need more anti-spam measures.

Another forum i visit they run a script that changes words into other words... for a while they changed 'they' in to 'i love beiber <3' or like steams pink hearts to break advertising URL/IMG's?
Out of curiosity would this be doable?

less protections, a few of the classic games get spammed as well, but this is at the top of the page, and spammers are lazy

Now it seems they're specifically targeting this threat... do their bots have detection for the word "spam" in the thread title or something?

This sub forum has less security than most so that a wider selection of members can post problems here and get help.
Unfortunately it makes it easier for bots as well, this is what the whole board would be like without the hard working forum staff.

Given the shocking nature of the spam in this thread, would it make sense to limit new members from posting images or links? Perhaps a longer waiting period for images and links could mean a shorter waiting period for posting.

I think it was mentioned else where the forum software does not support those restrictions

Really? One forum I visit has such restrictions on links. It is powered by vBulletin 4.1.4.

That company is pissed at me because I found over 2300 of their accounts in one day and got rid of them before they could launch their major attack, they had been setting it up for a long time.
