(this option is all about being a checkbox upgrade, because it would add a large layer of depth, but also really up the games difficulty)
I have seen some discussions about some of these aspects, Like if you have 3 parts, the mech not magically appearing completed. (something i think needs to change, Ready/repair time to complete the mech, then load it up)
One thing I've been pondering is Repair. You need to have weapons to load them up, but no parts to repair. It got me thinking that what if a mech could not be repaired unless you had a scrap part? If you lost an arm, it takes one scrap, if you loose an arm and torso, it would take 2 scrap parts. ect.
This would really up the difficulty, and make your choice of parts mean more than just getting the newest mech. Sure there is a HBK-4P i'd like, but i better take that shadow hawk piece because if i loose an arm in the next mission i'm screwed! ( the idea being one identical scrap part = a fix for the correct mech.)
Scrap could become a (generic) repair tool item, Need to fix an atlas? Well you might need to scrap 5 locust parts to fix that bad boy if you don't have the right scrap item. (basically that would mean if you didn't have an atlas scrap part, you would have to use/cannibalize more than one part to fix said mech.) This could be done for minor repairs like Structure fixes, or anything that does not include replacing a limb/toros/leg ect.
I also think loosing a mech it should turn into scrap and not just reload into your bay.. Sorry you lost your brand new Catapult it's first time out,... at least you could salvage the right side anyway.
It would also make visiting stores much more interesting to see what kinda scrap they have. Right now the only reason to buy it is if you want to build a new mech. But if you were running low on repair parts, maybe you need to grab a couple Scrap Panthers to keep yours running. Or maybe you are so low on scrap you are buying up everything you can find just to do minor structure repairs.
Scrap would be used to repair anything outside of armor, any structure, lost arm, torso, leg ect. Basically i am looking for a resourced based repair system, not a magic C-bill system. It would make having extra bays as mechs take a while to repair be worth having. Do you want to scrap that atlas you can't fix, or leave it in a bay waiting on parts? It could also give us reasons to have to use other mechs, verse just waiting a few days because we have c-bills to burn.
I have no clue how much work this would be, but it is something that i think would add a huge layer of depth to the repair/money side of the game. So much i'd pay for a darn DLC just to do it if it was done right. (that would also keep it for the hardcore fans so new players would not have to worry about so much depth) Though hey, i wouldn't complain about free upgrade to base game either. I just want to see more depth in this part of the game.
anyone else?
