I've seen some post about Harald fairhair's domain here and i think they should change it tbh so i made this post. i first posted this in the general ck3 forum but i think it should've been posted here instead as it is more of a suggestion.

Harald fairhair started as the petty king of agder: It was Haraldr Hárfagri of the Norse petty kingdom of Agder who fought a series of unification wars in the 860s and 870s to forge a single Norwegian kingdom by AD 872. Even by this time, the kingdom still only comprised the southern third of modern Norway, with the rest forming part of a vast territory which was known to some as Kvenland.

My suggestion (part of the titles should be delegated to his family members as he did "irl"):
Harald should be unmarried or bethrothed at most. The ingame spouse is "Ragnhild" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnhild_the_Mighty - which is said to be daughter of the jutish king Eirikr. She also became his wife later on, after he had divorced Åsa & rejected other concubines. Åsa which is suggest below)
so im not entirely sure what is going on in jylland. (maybe it should be devided a bit?)

This guy should have a daughter and be married to harald with an alliance: "The taxes demanded by Harald were much higher than other kings and a third of the revenues where given to his jarls. This made jarls and rich farmers flock to his cause to enrich themself. One of these was Håkon Grjotgardsson of Trondheim who allied with Harald and married off his daughter Åsa to him."

For traits, id argue they should remove calm. His martial is good. his stewardship should probably be a bit higher seeing as his military reforms & taxes was a big part of his success (or would that be diplomacy?)

Id choose either Just or Gregarious in replacement, or even lustful. as he fathered a bunch of kids. he also should be a viking.

  • The sagas describe Harald Fairhair as an unusually handsome man. He was tall and strong, generous, wise and sociable.
  • Harald established a cultural centre around his court. The saga tells that: Of all his warriors Harald Fairhair treasured his skalds the most: They were seated opposite him in the high seat.
  • Harald was also a sea-king and a Viking. He was in his element on board a ship and sailed far and wide on Viking raids.
might be a bit much, but the strong trait would suit him, it would also not be inheritable. but with the norse culture tradition making strong a prestige profit would suit him well.

"In 866, Harald made the first of a series of conquests over the many petty kingdoms which would compose all of Norway, including Värmland in Sweden, which had sworn allegiance to the Swedish saga-king Erik Eymundsson (whose historicity is not confirmed). Marching up through the Uplands and into Trondheim and then south along the coast Harald subdued many petty kings. " - so you could even make a case for varmaland. but yeah.

867Haraldr Hárfagri spends the winter at his new royal residence of Lade in the Throndhjem region before embarking on his next campaign. Prior to leaving he is forced to engage in a second battle against the people of Orkadal, clearly demonstrating the resistance to central authority being exhibited by the locals of this region.

The men of Orkadal may be under the command of Nokve of Raumsdal at this time, but the resistance is soon crushed. Hornklofe's poem Glymdrapa records 'And Novke's ship, with glancing sides, must fly to the wild ocean's tides - must fly before the king [Haraldr] who leads Norse axe-men in their ocean steeds [their longships]'.

Avaldsnes -
  • Avaldsnes is regarded as Harald’s most important royal seat. Harald could control his west Norwegian realm best from Avaldsnes. It was here he settled and felt safe in his advancing years.
  • Harald died at Avaldsnes, and it was in this area he was buried at “.. Haug by the strait of Karmsund“.
  • Harald Fairhair and his descendants held court at Avaldsnes for almost 500 years.
" For about 500 years Avaldsnes was a royal seat for the national kings; Harald Fairhair and his descendants. During this long period, a number of royal courts have existed, each of which had many buildings for different purpose.

The royal manor at Avaldsnes was primarily known from the Old Norse Kings’ Sagas, and St Olaf’s church was the only visible memory from the national kings above ground. The royal manor area has been in intensive use until our times, and one had to believe that most of the traces from more glorious times ine the past were destroyed. But in 1986 the first physical track of the King’s manor showed up from the soil: The archaeologists uncovered an underground passageway which probably was an escape route for use in times of trouble. Also the ongoing Royal Manor Project have found traces of buildings dating from the time of the national kings, as well as from earlier periods. "

It is further explained that Avaldsnes/Ögvaldsnes has been the seat of power for a long time even before that as Haraldr overthrew the previous "king" (petty) in that area. it seems a bit weird its not the capital,a castle or anything.

could be a fun addition:
Snæfrithr Svásadottir (or Snjófríthr Svásadóttir, Norwegian: Snøfrid Svåsedatter) also called Snæfride finzsku (Snæfrithr the Finnish/Sami) was, according to medieval tradition a wife of the Norwegian king Harald Fairhair. The legend is described in both Heimskringla and Ágrip, and she is briefly mentioned in Orkneyinga saga. She is described as a Sami woman and is according to the sagas, the ancestor of Harald Hardrada. With the exception of Ragnhild the Mighty, she is the only wife of Harald Fairhair mentioned by name outside of Heimskringla[1].

When Snæfrith suddenly died, Harald was beside himself with grief, but a man known as Thorleif the Wise convinced the king to leave the chamber where the queen laid and told him that it was not honorable to let the dead lie there in the same clothes she perished in. Harald agreed to have the clothes changed and the body moved but when his servants did so the body turned blue and started to smell awful. Men hurried to prepare a pyre, but before they burned her, toads, snakes and lizards crawled out of her body. When Harald realized Snæfrith had been a witch he became furious and had all his sons by Snæfrith sent away. Since that day Harald became ill-disposed towards magicians. When Rǫgnvaldr followed in his mother's footsteps, Harald sent his most loyal and beloved son Eirikr Bloodaxe to murder Rǫgnvaldr.

Maybe he could have her as a concubine or in his court and release events about discovering witch secrets or something. Harald should probably start unmarried, at most bethrothed. this could be a event in a chain of events if you follow in harald's conquest for norway. would be cool if they did these things with historical characters for most cultures. doesnt need to be forced upon you,but with triggers. they did a slight nod to him giving him the nickname change if he becomes king and he has a slight buff but it felt as a missed oppurtunity.
