Yeah Fox I've been playing it almost exclusively since release- it has me hooked. Love the game, warts and all. It has been amazing value for money. The experience has improved dramatically too with the introduction of "Loading Screen" and "Less Steam" mods- eliminating frustrating CTD, slashing load times and allowing me to subscribe to far too many "must have" assets!
That's about 20% of the 2 years.
haha, yeah 3500 hours seems too much to me, even for a hardcore fan.
Anyway, I've clocked 850 hours since release date of the game and I play the game religiously to the point that I'm becoming quite socially isolated because of it, I don't get how one could possibly clock 4x as much hours as me, that's just INSANE!!! But who am I to judge ...
Pretty sure Steam counts time even if the game is paused. I have noticed the hours for some of my games are a little higher than I think is true.
yeah but then why would you brag about fake numbers, I'm operating under the assumption that we're all honest on this forum. Everyone can just pause the game overnight and misreport their actual playing time this way, but what's the point though?
I never meant to imply that it was fake, but that sometimes they can be off a bit because of things like that.

Ok, i believe you too. And i respect your dedication aswell. Back in my days when i had lots of time, i used to be obsessed with simcity4. I wouldn't be surprised if i also had spent a thousand or two hours playing that game. City builders can be very addictive.
Two years and still playing the game myself with about 2500 hours in on it. I agree it's one of those lasting programs which will live forever as long as it can be used on the computer. There aren't many programs like that other an one other I use and of course the venerable office type products.
Yeah, unless something like "Cities Skylines 2" comes out, and is vastly superior, then I'll be playing this as for a very long time.
I have had a few games over the years that I really put a lot (too much!) time into.
Played a lot of "X-Wing", "TIE Fighter", and the "Command & Conquer" series (TD, TS, 3, KW, RA, RA2, C&C:G, C&C:G ZH). Age of Empires 2 (+ TC), Age of Mythology. UT99.
Others like the GTA series, I put a fair bit in, probably more than most, but eventually tire of it.
Played Sim City on the C64. Very glad I decided to give "Cities Skylines" a try.
The same here as well and even more so for me now because I too am retired. I find myself now using Cities for 12-hour stretches as well as another go-to program I have installed, which very much like Cities is a creative and building program which gets addicting. I suppose it could be worse. We could be sitting there watching TV all day, or off at a bar tooting it up and then driving home.

For It's the Command and Conquer series, Age of Empires, SimCity on the PC and its iterations, and then I briefly tried MS Train Simulator, which gave way to Auran's TRS2004. Now I have Cities and N3V's Trainz: A New Era, the latest iteration of the old Auran Trainz series, which I started with in December 2003.
If Cities Skylines 2 came out, I would consider that as a continuation of the same game rather than a new one just as Trainz 1.0, Trainz, UTC TRS2004, TRS2006, TS2009, TS2010, TS12, and now T:ANE fill out the series. In this case whatever was downloaded previously, or even installed from third-parties, and in-game DLC is almost fully compatible with the newest version. This is both good and bad since I now have mustered up nearly 148,000 assets installed including dependencies!
It's easy to get lost in the game- I've often stopped to look at the clock only to discover it's 3am!
If you've not bought it already you should give Transport Fever a try. I've not touched Cities Skylines since TF was released.
