I am playing as russia, and am fighting sweden. I have an army of 60K and they 54K, my land maintanance up to max, and my army stated with max morale. My morale maximum is 5, and the swedes is 4.7, yet as soon as the battle starts, my troops immediatly drop to half morale, help?

It means that their maximum morale is much higher than yours so it just looks like your morale dropped. It didn't its just terrible vs your enemy. Get Defensive Ideas, prestige, or claim Defender of the Faith. Is that your maximum morale or your morale during battles? Also they could just have better tech than you, or their discipline could just be much higher and they're destroying you.

Oh. That almost always explains crushing defeats without need for further investigation.

The size of your morale bar is always in relation to the morale bar of the opposing force.

If your morale is 5, and theirs is 10, your bar will be shown as 50%.

5 being 50% of 10, you see.

You are at your max, but your max is still only half of his max.

Perhaps an unintuitive way of displaying it, but there it is.

Who is starting the battle? cause I read that the attacking side gets an extra 0.50 morale upon starting the battle. That, combined with what Slargos said before, might explain why you see your morale dropped to half.
