Seriously, the british will make an amphiby assault later during the Napoleonic War and without help from France, the garnison will capitulated.

Likely would have been a stop gap, and Independence would have come sooner rather than later. Fact is quite a few French planters wanted freedom from France. Slave population in Saint-Domingue was huge (more than half a million) and they had been in various states of rebellion for twelve years. The slaves had instituted guerilla warfare on Planters/Maroons as well.

French military occupation of Saint-Domingue would have been costly and overshadowed any wealth the colony produced (as the economy would continue to shrink.) Planets would likely continue to attempt to trade outside France (a no-no.)
