I took the adaptable trait when I started a new game in 2.2.5 because I understood that it would impact on growth rate but I'm wondering whether I have wasted a trait pick.

I would have 90% habitability on all planets anyway (I have inward perfection and also triggered the worm event, giving tomb world habitability, plus all the techs gets me to 90) and from what I can see having an extra 10% doesn't do anything to increase growth rate, so all I am getting for 2 trait points is a modest reduction in consumer goods/amenities.

Thoughts? Is adaptable worth the cost of 2 trait points, even with the changes in 2.2.5?

Habitability is indeed a much less important stat in 2.2, sadly. The by far best meta it to colonize all planets ASAP, because pop growth is king and even 20% hab have full pop growth. The worst part is that you can't even mod in slower pop growth from habitability for some reason.

Habitability has 0 effect on growth 'rate' in 2.2.5. Habitability affects growth prioritization. In fact it affected prioritization in all 2.2 versions, but other growth values were so wonky no one really noticed.
In case its unclear, what it means is that on multi-species planets species with high habitability will be chosen more often to grow than species with low habitability.
However, there is still significant wonkiness with other pop-growth values so dont count on this effect in any of your games.

It will in no way ever modify the base 3 growth per month of the planet up or down. Habitability will never have any effect on how fast pops grow.

Adaptable does have an advantage in the early game, because low habitability significantly increases food and (more importantly) consumer goods usage for each pop. Early on, high adaptability makes settling on many more planets affordable.
